@Cas I shorted those 2 pins with a screwdriver, put my old cpu in and it works fine.

I also left out the SSD. Not sure what I did wrong, but now I am scared to do anything else.

Let me tell you what happened again now that i am calm.

    1. upgraded graphics card on current build (fx6300 msi gaming 970 hyperx 16Gb ram).
    2. ordered fx8350 & ssd
    3. powered down cpu, took out chip, put new chip in, plugged in ssd, and booted.
    4. got a screen that said insert installation disk or hardware from usb or press enter. (pressing enter gave the same message)
    5. reboot to bios reset msi default settings
    6. reboot to save, and black screen for next 4 hours.
    7. found a thread, cmos restart by 2 pins w/ flathead screwdriver. Put old hardware back (except graphics card) and works fine.

First, if you’re upgrading multiple things its best to do them one by one.
You got a black screen telling you to install media? Okay. Good. Insert the install media? The usb thing I linked on that Microsoft page.
When that’s done, pop the new cpu in.

@Cas here where I am at. After discovering CMOS reset and getting old pc build to boot. I put everything stock back on the way I had it and just started with new chip. It worked, and booted my old computer. So the issue the whole time was it was trying to boot to the black ssd and when I reset the pc it must’ve defaulted to boot to that. So you’re suggesting I buy a whole new windows 10 install? Because I can upgrade to windows 10 for free and then clone it to the ssd

By the way my pc boot time went from 24 to 11 seconds just by the chip. Hopefully I can figure out the ssd upgrade

I doubt you can still upgrade for free from 7 to 10, but go ahead and try. You can change boot order in the BIOS. Usually you press/hold f2/f9 or delete or whatever button to get into the bios. Look at your screen before windows boots to see which one it is.

It's decent. Try buying a better one if you want high FPS.
