The Wii Sucks - Wii-ducation

Section I - Controls
For games for which controls are important, such as FPSs, the Wii is terrible. Let's Find out why:
- The controller is insensitive. You'll commonly find yourself doing the same action again and again trying to get the console to detect it.
- The controls are pathetically bad IN EVERY GAME due to nintendo's need to be "creative" (use motion sensitivity).

Summary: If you are here for the controller, leave now please. If you like jumping around in front of your TV like a gay child molester, you may leave now too.

Section II - Graphics
Here are the Wii's specs:
- CPU: PowerPC processor (90 nm) @ 729 MHz. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME PROCESSOR THAT WAS USED IN MACS WITH NO DIFFERENCE. But even macs don't use this shit now.
- GPU: ATI "Hollywood" GPU (90nm) @ 243 MHz. This GPU is very similar to that of the original XBOX. It is slightly less powerful and also has virtually no support for shaders (which are very, VERY important in today's games). Capable of 33,000,000 polygons per second.
- RAM: 88 MB 1T-SRAM (Commonly used in low-end applications such as cell phones). However, only 64 MB of this is acctually available to games.
- Graphics Memory: 3 MB. Acctually, thats memory shared as GPU texture memory and framebuffer.
- 512 MB internal Flash storage device.
- Supports up to 480p (720x480) output via Composite, Component or S-video.

And now, the XBOX 360:
- CPU: Xenon Processor - 3 cores x 2 hardware threads each (65nm) @ 3.2 GHz (for each thread)
- GPU: ATi Xenos (90nm, 65nm later this year) @ 500 MHz. Features 48 parellel shader pipelines capable of approximately 48,000,000,000 shader calculations a second. Actual GPU capable of approximately 500,000,000 polygons a second.
- RAM: 512 MB XGDDR3 Memory @ 700 MHz (Very high speed memory)
- Graphics memory: The GPU uses the RAM directly as it's memory, but also features a 10 MB eDRAM framebuffer.
- 20 GB or 120 GB Removeable hard drive storage device; 64 MB or 512 MB memory cards.
- Supports up to 1080p (1920x1080) output with full-scene 4x antialiasing via HDMI, composite, component, S-video or VGA.

Section III - Games
90% of games on the Wii are crap. This isn't my opinion, it is a fact. Nintendo lets publishers release whatever the hell they want. They could care less. These games can fall into 3 catagories, and they are:
1. Ports of last-gen games (or worse) with Wii controls tacked on to them.
2. Shameless rip-offs of popular titles.
3. Trash. Let's go no further on this catagory.

The other 10% are either based on Mario or are targeted at 6-10 year olds.

Section IV - HYPE
Let's get this straight.
1. The controller is HOURS of fun. The controller is NOT hours of fun, it will get old quickly, especially when you are planning to play a game because you are tired and want to take a break.
2. Wii adds a Lot of Depth to games.... See above.
3. The controls allow the developers to create extremely creative games. Yeah, like Balls of Fury, FarCry Veangence, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and Anubis II. These are actual games, look them up.


So in short, this is my advice to you:
- If you don't have a Wii, never buy one.
- If you have a Wii, sell it and buy something more useful, like a statue of jesus taking a shit.

I'm not sure if it was the failure that is this forum theme, or just your formatting that made me skip your whole block of content, but I agree.

The Wii is a gimmick. The people who I know that own them play them only occasionally to entertain friends for a few moments. The only time I had fun playing a Wii was playing the old super smash brothers on a gamecube controller.

 

I agree with s3xpert for wii the only good things are metroid prime coruption and zelda twighlight princess other than that its shit xbox 360 0wnz ps3 and wii

The wii is a fad. A one time thing. Hopefully, it will die out.

Remember the nintendo gamecube? It was uber cool cause it was small and had an uber controller with 50 buttons, half of which arent used.

I TOTALLY agree with you here mate. I was given the Wii as a gift from my mom and I was excited and LOVED the thing.....

For the first 20 minutes. After that, every game felt the same, and it's all so boring especially if you're playing by yourself.


Although, I am getting a platform for christmas, and I don't know which to get. You're pretty good at breaking down the systems so I'll tell you what I want..

I want to be able to play online, but I don't know how extensive the PS3's Online gaming experience is. I also want good games, and up to date graphics. The 360 seems to offer it for me but I am not entirely sure.

That was so obviously biased it's not funny. You, sir, obviously don't know shit about the Wii. No, I don't own one, but you need to shut up and learn some facts. There is nothing wrong with the PowerPC processors. They are still widely used today. They simply use a different architecture to your Intel and AMD chips. Many high-end computers (database servers and such) run on PowerPC processors, but I suppose you didn't know that, did you?

The graphics on the Wii look great. They may not be at the same level as the xbox or the ps3, but i find the games i've played to be a lot of fun.

Your points about the controllers are pure BS. The Wii uses the same technology as the PS3 and the xbox 360. Bluetooth which means that unless you're like 20m away from your TV, reception will be fine. The PS3 even has the same motion-sensing features as the Wii. You won't find yourself repeating movements unless you have a faulty controller, because of the accelerometers used.

Haven't tried wii yet. I dont play many games at all.. Still got the ps1 and ps2 .. Still find em funny to play sometimes.. Hopefully i'll get a Xbox or Ps3 one day,

Only reason i dont want a Wii is because i dont like games where u gotta move around.. Like eyetoy

Wii , its not just about how good the graffix are how easily the controller works, They are really fun to use and the repitition is part of the fun.
