This is basically me rambling to myself and typing.

Well one problem is that the red triangle and the green triangle are not sloped the same. The green one has a higher slope than the red one. That helps with the overall optical illusion that the different colors of the lines make. The hole comes from the 3 x 5 rectangle the two non-triangle shapes make together at the top, and the 2 x 8 rectangle they make at the bottom. When the red and green triangles are arranged like they are at the top, the 3 unit height of the red triangle becomes a side of an imaginary rectangle, and the 5 unit bottom of the green becomes a side. Together they form a 5 x 3 rectangle. In the same way they form an 2 x 8 at the bottom.

The principle comes from the fact that if you take 10 squares and arrange them as the length and widths of different rectangles, the rectangles they will make will have different areas. As a general rule, the rectangle with the length and width being closest together, i.e. 6 x 4 being closer together than 8 x 2, will have a greater area. Since the sides of the two rectangles the orange and lime green shapes don't add up to be equal, it twists it a bit. While the top rectangle's sides add up to 8, the bottoms add up to 10. However, the top's are closer together relatively than the bottom's. They balance out and the bottom's ends up having 1 more square than the top's.

Another thing that puzzles me, is that this doesn't seem to be a perfect right triangle if I did my math right. From the picture, the bottom leg and the hypotenuse are exactly the same length, which shouldn't be right. The bottom leg has a length of 13, the side leg 5, and the hypotenuse appears to be 13.

    Conclusion:
Since the two triangles make a rectangle with an area of 15 on top, and 16 on the bottom, and the two non triangle shapes have a combined area of 15, there has to be a missing space to make up for it.

I think its just somehow, the angle of the hypotenuse is different in the two images, the second one is smaller, which would allow that extra block to appear, and also the perimeter of the rectangle is larger than the area of the other rectangle, and if you calculate it, there is one more block in the second image than the first

Not quite to hard , have a look at the angles and you'll notice the top one is sloped.

Please explain what your trying to do, all i notice is that the orange box place thingy, is longer to fit the red triangle on top of it, which told it stable but at the same time extends to make the small square, and the smaller triable fills the void where the red one used to be.

Dont look at the image as a whole, look at it in the little cubes. If you notice in the pictures the way the figures are place take alittle bit of space out of each cube. Not enough space to take out the whole cube.

So if you move them around, the ones that didnt fill up the whole space are moved in a different way, so all the little spaces that wasnt filled up added up into one whole cube

Hard for me to explain lol
