Thoughts?

So I have/had a friend who would send me money from his credit card (linked to PayPal) in which I would then use my PayPal debit card to take the cash out. This continued for 2-3 months.......

He sends me $80 - I take out $50 for him
He sends me $130 - I take out $100 for him

These 2 transactions (2-3months) = $7,000+

I got an email last night about him disputing them & leaving my PayPal in the negative. I called PayPal & they tell me that I most likely will be left in the negative because I was involved & so he gets away with it? That makes no type of sense what so ever!

What do I do now? Thoughts?

PS: I EVEN HAVE PROOF HE WAS SENDING ME MONEY KNOWINGLY! BUT PAYPAL DOESNT "NEED" TO SEE IT.

 

So let me get this straight. He would send you money for you to cash out and give it to him and you would keep a big commission?

 

At first he told me he had an eBay store in which he didn't have a bank account though, so he offered those numbers based on me helping him out so I did for a while.
A few weeks later I began to questioned him in which he then changed his story claiming, "well I have my credit card & I only have to pay $25 on it so I can pay it with the money you give me plus have some for myself (and you)".
I continued to do it but now he is claiming he didn't do these transactions.......

 

MIND YOU I KNOW THIS KID PERSONALLY!

 

If this con artist is a kid then threaten him to sue him or let his parents know what he did and that you are willing to take it to court. I mean 7k is a lot of money.

If they refuse then just speak to a civil lawyer.

Next time you should be really careful on who you trust and stop using paypal for that kinda things

 

22 years old. You would think he would be a grown up & not do things like this, but of course I need to watch who I trust from now on. I really think PayPal needs to step up on how they handle things because that means I can run my credit card up like that & call up and say "that wasn't me doing those transactions" & yet the person whom it was sent to gets f***ed over? In my opinion thats totally wrong!

 

It's not really Paypals fault, its the credit card companies who side with their client. Banks need their clients happy so they will do whatever to get their money.
Take a look at all of the gold sellers in this site. They either do not accept Paypal or they add 30% extra for using it. This is used to cover the charge backs they usually get.

How do you know him, and how well? Because if you know where he lives go round there with a bat or something, and threaten him. Thats about the only way to do it. I think paypal may side with him, but who knows. To be honest if i was paypal it would seem weird that someone had no idea of anything happening in PP for 2 months then disputes all the claims...

Also, you can't just run up a debt on your credit card and get it wiped off, thats fraud isnt it?

 

Totally agree. Ive known him for about 6-7 years now, I know what cars his family drives, where he lives, where he works, etc. I work with his brother! PayPal told me it is considered fraud ON HIS END, as they weren't sure if I would come out of the negative until 24-48 hours. FINGERS ARE CROSSED!

 

Yes mate. Now I know - from personal experience over time things can seem less warped - ie if you're pissed off over the weekend at your mate you generally forget about it the next week. But if it were me i would go straight to his family and explain what hes doing.

A) he tried to sit your arse in debt - which as stated is fraud but is also a dick move, well more to be precise. So go get him told off by his family at least

B) he could be doing this to other people, so try and stop that if it is occuring....

GL mate, if you have that much information about him i'm sure you will get the money back even if paypal doesn't follow through.

I have already spoke with him, he denies everything.

 

Do not confront him, do not beat him up like some of these idiots are telling you. Call a lawyer and the police. What he's done is commit fraud. File a police report and speak to a lawyer now. I bet he was using his parents card or something.

After filing a police report show it to PayPal.

Yes. I have contacted the police about it who told me to print out some proof (text, call logs, FB messages, etc) then come & file a report.

Instead I called a PayPal supervisor who took my entire side of the story START - FINISH & used the proof I had in all the disputes made (49) and so far 6 were viewed & I won 5 of them.......not guarenteed to win ALL of them but I should win most, as long as I get it to a considerably amount and learn my lesson I am fine with that.

If I don't win many or the amount does not go down to a reasonable amount I can/will take him to civil court and worry about it more then, for now I am waiting it out to see what PayPal can do.
