How to get off scratches from a disk.

You have a game disk very scratched.

Step 1 : Get toothpaste.. doesnt matter.

Step 2 : Squirt a blob a toothpaste on the disk.

Step 3 : Rub in a circular motion all around the disk(smeared)

Now let it sit for 5 Minutes.

Come back get the disk wet while rubbing it to get the paste off.

Now gently dry it with a cloth or a shirt.

*NOTE* Results may VARY! Depending on toothpaste some dose better than others.

How to get off scratches from a disk.

there's another method that is to actually place the damaged disk into a toilet basin and FLUSH IT. when i first heard this, i was completely flabbergasted [holy shit, that's a real word]. once flushed, you must place the disk label-side-down on a counter or something to AIR DRY. do not wipe it or anything, air only.

oh crap! i just remembered i have a terribly scratched velvet revolver CD that i KEEP FORGETTING TO FIX. brb

EDIT: i just tested it on that velvet revolver CD. although it is still wet, it appears that many of the scratches have disappeared

P.S. i'm pretty sure this won't work on really deep scratches, for those ones, stick to the toothpaste :p

Most of the time it works, but only for mild damage. If it's a lot of big fucking scratches theres usually no hope.

    Wtf?
I thought you were never meant to "Rub in a circular motion all around the disk"
My dad told me to always rub from the inside to out, inside to out.

    Any proof of this theory?

I dunno about all the rest of the methods however I've used car paint buffer to varying levels of success. Give it a go, it might help your situation.

i was thinking since the scratches are on the plastic not on th "foil stuff" then they should make that stuff removable. Then you can buy some plastic discs and then transfer it.

Most of it is wrong. At least for me when I tried it, it doesn't work [I use discs that can't be played from the library, lol]
    1. Toothpaste DOES matter, as the blue gel toothpaste will fuck up the disc.

    2. Squirting a blob will screw up the part of the disc it's on, so you dab some on a cloth.

    3. You have to evenly smooth it out, not smear unevenly, or it will get scratched even more.

What you're really doing is scratching the disc more so the entire CD is evened out, called resurfacing.

actually, they leave enough plastic material on the CD so you can remove some of it in the event of a scratch
for about 10$, you can get a CD buffer kit, which will remove most even the deepest CD scratches, and of course this kit can be re-used

but, if you are cheap like every other human being on the planet and would rather save 10$ and DL the music, then try the toothpaste. it is more effective than flushing.

Another idea is to flush the disk 'down' the toilet. Make sure the toilet is clean, carefull put the disk with the disk graphics facing the poop shoot, and let her rip. It worked for my gears of war. :D

EDIT: Sorry i was so excited to post my idea, that i didn't know it was already posted, my apologies.
