I think that may be the next one to feel the pinch, if Jagex are looking at updating their game, customers, etc, they may well want to eradicate the widespread gambling.

I dont understand why jagex has been taking away gambling. it adds a different aspect to the game. makes it fun for others. if you dont like gambling go kill some rats in Lumbridge or something.

They're taking it away because too many people use it to scam.
If they could control the scamming, they'd have no problem having people bet on others.
I mean, staking in duels is betting on your chances of winning, correct?

You can't really scam in duels, with the exception of bugs (which are patched as soon as they are acknowledged.)

Because it as a game targeted at kids/adolescents primarily.

I remember when they removed the actual dice from the game, in a video, one of the J mods said that it was never their intention to introduce gambling to the game on the scale that it happened.

With it still being beta, there's no telling whether it will be removed or not.

JaGex said they're thinking about adding their own casino type thing in to the game.

It's always going to be around.

As long as IRC dicing is still popular, then gambling won't go away.

Jagex can get rid of easter rings, horses, flowers, etc, but if you can gamble without using an RS item/feature, then its going to be around.

I'm not sure if this thread is aimed at whether Jagex will take action on dicing after the EoC, or if they EoC will affect dicing.

Only way to stop dicing, since it's used in IRCs, is to put a trade limit. EoC won't have much of an affect on dicing.

The only valid reason I see why Jagex would want to get rid of gambling is how they lose players over it. People gamble their banks away, if they lose they quit. If they win, it just means they are staying, but will eventually come to that same point again.

They seem to be mainly against the fact that tons of players get scammed by dicing clans, and also how a lot of these big wins usually results in RWT.

And how often does that happen anymore? Gambling has been out for almost 2 years now, any clan that scams would not be used by now. It's the hosts that scam, and there's not much the clan can do about it except get rid of them.

There are a large number of different kinds of scams, luring for example.

Big wins don't result in RWT, it depends on the player. 2 players staking their bank of 1B away. One ends up with 2B and the other ends up with 0. The one that wins has just as much odds of RWTing the winnings than the loser. If staking was out of the equation, odds are they would both sell it for the same reason they gambled their banks away.

But when Jagex is trying something different, the EoC, taking a gamble just shows how they want to attract more users. The amount of people that loses their bank daily is slowly killing Runescape, and almost all of them permanently quits after losing it all. Just imagine how many have gotten cleaned since FT.

Irl, gambling has been made illegal in some states in the U.S. because of it's negative side effects, example- increased chance of suicide. Which is the same reason within RS in a way. (Suicide = You leaving Runescape, which to Jagex is killing yourself.)

They want their game to expand, not slowly die off because players lose everything they own. Personally, I wish I would've never found out about gambling within RS.

Staking however is a form of allowed gambling that Jagex knows about, yes. However; You need an account with at a minimum four 99 stats, which Jagex probally feels you've matured enough by this point to NOT stake away everything you've ever earned.

 Laughing at this thread now. But it's up in the air if flowers will survive EOC right. The only evidence would be removal of gambling methods from beta?
