Do you donate to homeless people?

Do you feel sorry for them?

What is you opinion on banning them from sleeping or panhandling in public crowded places?

    Should we ban feeding them?

Yet i do feel sorry for them. Ya always gotta b weary because as of what I have seen, They take your money, walk to the nearest clerk, purchase the best bottle of liqueur for the dime and then B A M. The're back out begging for money.

Because of this, I dont trust em at all. So instead, i'll bring em a cheeseburger etc.

I do not donate to the homeless because I feel that the large majority of them can find a minimum wage job. If you are physically capable, there should be no excuses. Who cares if you're homeless, get a real job.

    Exactly

I share quite similar opinion. When someone I know gives them money or food I always try to stop them. IMO they just benefit from people feeling "guilty" and I think they are the bad ones, not me.

Need to be careful because a lot of them are alchoholics. It's best to just buy them food instead of giving them money because they'll be off to the nearest bar otherwise. I don't feel much sympathy for those who are on the streets because of addiction though or just downright laziness, it's their fault that they're where they are.

I feel sorry for veterans who can't find employment after their enrollment is terminated. And citizens hard done by harsh economic times, people who are laid off and then lose their homes, and people who lose their lives paying to keep loved ones alive because health care is so expensive. I won't hesitate to help these people out.

No, in New Zealand majority of them are eligible for welfare so I don't pity them at all.

I'm not homeless but this is something I'd likely be interested in watching given it's presented well and doesn't drag on

Yes, I do believe in helping out less fortunate people. Not necessarily homeless, just less fortunate. Money isn't usually the right donation though, food/supplies/clothes helps them out a lot more and you can be sure they won't go and blow it on alcohol or other things.

I think there is a weird stigma around homeless people. I mean how could we know what its like when we have comfortable lives. Don't give them money if you don't trust them, but please sit down for a minute, talk to them and learn their story :) I don't get the chance often because I live in the countryside.

A lot of the time help is available for these people, but it means that they have to play by another persons rules, which they are not used to doing.

I would add that mental health conditions are rife in the homeless population, and its not easy to see if that is cause or effect.

If I have coins which is not often as I don't generally use cash I will flick it to them but this would be once maybe every 4 or 5 months so not really. More of a convenience to get rid of change rather than helping though lol..

Here in NY, they're everywhere. When I'd go to the gym, I usually buy 2 protein shakes and give 1 to this disabled old guy who occasionally is near by the gym. I wouldn't give them money because it's obvious most wouldn't use it in their best interest. I don't mind them, unless they're sleeping on the train and stink up the whole cart.

I only donate food, not cash. At the drive thru of the Tim Hortons I go to there's this one guy who's there a lot and I buy a breakfast sandwich for him now and then.

If you give homeless people cash it's more likely they will spend it on booze/drugs/hookers than food.

No I don't. Here in Norway we are flooded with beggars. But only about 5% of them actually live here. Most of them are gypsies that just come here to beg and take the money back home. They chose to go here to beg instead of working in their home country as they earn more money from it.

I don't give money to the homeless people you see on the streets. I have seen FAR to many people take their destroyed and broken life and turn it into a great one.

I am in that boat as well.

To give handouts to those people, only propels them in a negative direction and creates a mentality that they can beg for their problems to be taken care of.

Now, with that said - I offer these guys' jobs and help in other ways.

I do save 10% of my income and donate it at the end of the year, but most the time it's used towards feeding families and given to charities, not to the homeless on the streets.

Sometimes when I see someone and I have a few extra bucks I don't mind giving them to a homeless person. I look at it as, I have no idea what that person has gone through.. Maybe he is some drug addict or drunk.. But I do not know that, maybe he really needs some help right now and is also looking for jobs.. But in the meantime is trying to get a little extra money for dinner or for his family..

Of course more then half of these "homeless" people are not truly homeless but there is no way to really know.

With that being said I definitely agree with just getting them some food and giving that to them. I would rather do that then just flat out hand them money but sometimes that's the easiest thing to do.

Bad stigma around the homeless. The homeless are essentially stuck in perpetual homelessness since an employer 99.999% of the time requires a fixed address and some sort of transportation with records of your past work. Also, the homeless really aren't lazy per se, but majority of them struggle with some sort of addiction or mental disability. Also, it doesn't help a large portion of these homeless are ex-American veterans who can't get a job or little to no help from the VA. One thing I do agree on is to not give them money as it won't actually help, but to give things like food, water, and advice/help.

It's sad cause my Dad's Dad served in Nam as Infinity then as he returned home, the war fuked with his mind and he turned mental and just couldn't maintain a steady commitment on anything which soon after led to him having no income, no money so he moved to the streets, soon after came the addiction which led to his death:(

Wow, sorry to hear that. I actually met a guy in his 40s in a pub who served in afghanistan as a pyrotechnist. He looked really tired and depressed and said that the only job he was able to find was a construction worker.

sad isn't it? sad that that's the only job he could find. Serving as a Pyrotechnist should be a bigger collar then a doctor, lawyer and all the above. If your risking your life 24/7 for your country, you deserve more than anyone.

I mean these are my thoughts. Some may disagree, but..

I used to give stuff to homeless people pretty often because I see so many driving to work/when I'm sitting at pretty much any light on the way to work but I stopped doing that altogether because I don't want to become homeless myself. I do genuinely feel bad for those people though and don't joke around about that situation because it's depressing/not one you'd ever want to be in
