You do realize that says the same thing as this?

Your translation: Fight those who believe not in God nor the Last Day

Says the same thing

Mostly the same, mention of people of the book highlighted in different places

Mostly the same. Differences revolve around synonyms. The message of the people submitting to the Islamic rule & tax is consistent.

Why would that answer my doubt? All it says is "well, we already know that we shouldn't be violent, so this verse cannot be interpreted to mean that we should be violent". The verse itself clearly commands fighting of people who don't accept Islam
