Protecting your mains, moving gold from mule to main

Just curious what's the actual risk involved in real world trading with your main? Obviously getting banned, but what's the general risk involved in using mains over moving gold to mules and then mules to main? Should you 100% always use a mule and is there a guide anywhere which sort of explains the ins and outs of setting up mule accounts to buy/sell gp. I've read that some mules don't ever get banned, some get banned after few months etc. Mule getting banned, no worries, a main however disaster.

I've bought and sold here and there and will always trade gold off of a mule.

 

I've traded with my main ever since I started here, have never been banned.
But on one occasion where I bought some RS GP from one of those websites, they traded some gold to my second account and I was banned 1-2 days later.
Perhaps Runescape has some flagging system I suppose.

 

Done it way over a hundred times, never been banned on any main account. If you do want to be fully secured tho, try transfering it through staking, dicing, etc.
