God is good

Does anyone else get tired of people using that phrase? Especially when it's used in the worst way possible?

Example: Someone posts about a family getting into a car crash, the dad, mom and 2 kids are in terrible condition with one of the kids being brain damaged, but they somehow manage to live.

They then proceed to say "God is good".. What the hell? If God is good, he would of prevented the incident, not make them live in pain and suffering.

Now I do believe in a God (Higher being than us), as I feel like everything the world provides and creates is too complex to come from nothing.

I don't really mind if the phrase is used to commemorate your accomplishments and what not, but I still find it annoying.

Does anyone else feel this way or differently than I do?

 

I never hear anyone say this phrase ever.

 

I see it on instagram and facebook all the time. I guess it depends on the demographics, idk.

 

Killing must feel good to god too. He does it all the time, and are we not created in gods image?

God meant to be creator and savior, while devil is bad. But in my opinion God is sometimes worse then Satan if it really exist's.
In religions, if you don't belong to that religion -> You go to Hell.
So what about poor children in Africa? Live in hell, go to hell.

To the question -> I hear that phase, a lot. Only from priest's and imam's (muslim priest's).
Otherwise, nope

 

I live in the deep south in the US and I never hear anyone use this phrase, especially in that sort of context.

 

If there is a supreme being I doubt it's tied up in the small stuff preventing car accidents. God supplied humanity with the Earth and made life, God didn't create a speeding motorist or the mobile phone that distracted a driver.

I don't think any religion really thinks or says that God manages every action of every human on Earth.

So I suppose; in the situation in the OP, God is good because it was destined to be that they would survive and that the accident will serve a greater purpose in some way or another.

Completely bonkers if you ask me but whatever helps 'em sleep at night.

This. I mean in the situation Op is talking about I understand his dismay.

But seriously Ive heard this on tv like 3 times ever, not once irl I can recall.

 

I think it's more or less an idiosyncrasy or idiom in many cases, rather than something to intentionally praise any sort of God. Nevertheless, I think it's awfully narcissistic to suggest that even if a God did exist, he would allow these "good" things to happen to some and absolutely awful things to happen to others. It suggests the target of the phrase is somehow special compared to the rest of humanity, which certainly is not the case.

Fundamentally the phrase is silly, but as an idiom I couldn't care less.
