    Hey guys,

Whats everyone's opinion on ADD? In the psychology world its seen as something overly diagnosed, which I probably agree with. However, I also see the opposing argument. I'm currently in college, a pretty damn competitive one and my courses are all insanely hard. In highschool, i was able to make A's without study (idk how), but now in college, I need to study or else I'm just wasting alot of money. I feel like its really making my life shitty/getting me down because I make schedules and stuff, but inevitably those don't work. Its frustrating not learning the material in the given time and I constantly feel like im behind---and this is 100% due to the fact that I am not adequately studying/focusing. I've never had great focusing skills, but I've never had a problem like during a test I can always force myself to concentrate (most of the time). However, I'm hesitant to get involved with perscription drugs since i dont wanna get hooked on them, never brought it up with a doc. Thoughts?

I've been struggling with ADD myself my whole life, when I was younger I actually took medication for it. I was so zombified it scared my teachers enough to contact my parents, which eventually led to me dropping the medication. Although, as I've gotten older it's got a lot better and I've learned how to somewhat cope. I'd go ahead and consult with a Doctor about it, as everyone reacts to medication differently, it could impact your life greatly. Without medication, I'd trying coming up with your own tricks to help maintain attention on what you need to. I hope you get the help or find a solution though, I struggle with it everyday.

People often confuse ADD with not giving a fuck. Those are two different things.

I'm in 2nd year of Uni and to tell you the truth: I don't study shit, I usually pass my courses with straight D's by studying the whole night before the exams. Not because I can't study at other times or I have ADD, simply because I am not bothered enough, I don't enjoy studying, whatsoever.

By making a schedule you still don't commit yourself to it. I look at schedule making as an advanced form of procrastination - You tell yourself I will study here and there - This helps you put off the studying from the moment when you COULD study, but decide to make the schedule to spend your time with something different than studying.

It's simply about attitude [at least for me].

    If you feel behind, well:
You have to decide whether you want to procrastinate and not give a fuck until the last moment [like I do] or if you can't do that due to the stress, try studying gradually, like say studying an hr after each Lecture / Seminar you have - When you go to classes you have it fresh in your mind, spending just a little time after the lesson can help you a lot, making it a lot easier for you to study for the finals and not feel that you are behind.

    Hope this helps, gl.

Yeah, I want to do well, thats not my issue, and I'm also aware of how to be a good student. Its just hard for me to focus and do what I intend to do
