Account Selling/Buying via Websites

Dear Sythe Community,

I am planning on selling my current RS account because I have quit playing some while back. I would like to get something out of it atleast, for all the work.

However it seems to be difficult to find buyers here on the forum, so I considered to sell it to a website, such as rs2gold.

The first thing they told me there is that I will have to wait 14 days to receive my payment. Could someone explain me what these websites do - are they legitimate (will they pay after the 14 days) and how come I have to wait for this long? Also, how do these websites even have a guarantee that a seller does not recover the account, this is why I am a bit suspicious that they would not scam me.

I hope someone could explain me how this is working.

They do that for a couple seasons.

To make sure you're serious about selling the account.
Securing the account somewhat.

They don't have a guarantee which is why they take these precautions. A lot of users recover their account back before receiving the payment, so it would make sense to test them.

They used to send you half of the money in 7 days and the rest in the next 7, but I guess they stopped doing that.

 

Their reason for the 14 day wait is to cut down on the amount of people who sell to them and immediately recover the account after getting paid. I have heard of issues where people have been unable to get paid after the wait time is over, but if they try to fuck you over, you can always just recover the account, I suppose.

Yes, generally reputable websites will make you wait 14 days before sending the payment. Either they will purchase the account directly from you or list the account and take a commission from the sale. I haven't had any trouble with this in the past, but its always a good idea to be a little bit cautious with this sort of thing.

As someone mentioned above me playerauctions is a decent place to sell your account, that way you're setting your price and dealing directly with the buyer.

How long did it take you to get a buyer?

Because it seems difficult to find one here.
