Why do people scam?

Don't scammers understand in the long run you will make more money being a legit seller/shop/whatever. Instead they decide to scam over a petty 5$-500$, or whatever the price. It just doesn't make sense to me.

 

Being a legit seller and doing opening up a shop requires patience and dedication. Most scammers don't have patience

Usually ppl scam on impulse or when they need it.

No police station is going to launch an international/interistate internet scam for virtual gold worth less than a few hundred dollars.

They don't have patience or don't want to put in time and effort to open a store. They'd rather scam for the $100 and be done with it

 

They don't know there's something like business which is way more profitable than scamming

 

The rush of getting away with it for some people, a likeness shared with IRL thieves.

That, and running a business takes work which is something that I'm sure most scammers aren't interested in.
