Well, mining BTC right now with regular means (meaning, not investing at least a few thousand dollars in hardware, minimum) isn't very profitable with the ridiculously powerful ASICs that have now dominated the mining market.

Investing in them would only be wise for long term. The true potential lies in when it becomes globally adopted as an acceptable parallel currency to fiat. No one knows when that will happen.
