Sythe wants us to settle the miniranks issue

Hello fellow Sythe users,

Certain people are upset that a variety of miniranks are shown globally across the forums. Some hate all of them, some hate some of them, and others want it displayed everywhere.

Option 1: Show all the miniranks globally, no disable.
Option 2: Show all the miniranks globally by default, but let people disable them all.
Option 3: Show only community-wide miniranks globally, disable rest unless in Spam Forum.
Option 4: Show only community-wide miniranks in market, and all of them everywhere else if not disabled.
Option 5: Show no miniranks by default, let people enable them.
Option 6: Show no miniranks ever because I'm a faggot, only show in Spam Forum
Option 7: Show only the Spam Forum ranks globally, rest only shown in Spam Forum


Please pick ALL the options you're okay with.

If people are on a laggy computer, they should be allowed to disable them.

Lol. If that's your reasoning then people might as well have the option to disable signatures and avatars.

I voted option #1.

 

Changed option 4 to allow people concerned about it interfering in the market to have a say. I think that was the main opposition anyway. No one has voted for it before this post, so it will not affect results.

 

That doesn't really come into it - the mini ranks are very small files, only a very small percentage of the total page load size. For an active user, most of them would already be cached anyway. The problem is solely one of appearance.

That being said, I voted 1. Monorails are just a bit of fun. Have fun.

 

Some people have really slow computers/laptops and it takes ages for things to load, people like Roary even have big signatures blocked, so don't try saying people don't lag even with small things like miniranks.

 

I've been on Sythe for 6+ months and sometimes miniranks still take time to load because my laptop is so shit, again this point is invalid.

 

That's probably just the Sythe imageserver being slow.

 

Option 9: Get rid of miniranks completely; they're useless

That would be because most of the other images are already in your cache, presumably. Images failing to load or loading slowly does not cause lag either - the whole point of HTML and concurrent requests is that you can still look at the page even before the miniranks have fully loaded - your browser just leaves a space until it can fill them. The problem would be that all the images are hosted on the same domain, so only a max of 2 (?) at a time can be loaded, making them appear to load slowly.

The images neither use up much bandwidth or take very long to load. I'm afraid that's a terrible argument; you would need a better one to get miniranks disabled. Why go after miniranks with that argument? Surely signatures woul be the way to go?
