    You actually can verify if codes work, you just need access to your xbox.

    When you go to the marketplace -> Redeem code

    Type in the code, press enter, and there is a verification screen. If the verification screen comes up, the code is valid and not used. Otherwise it will come up and say that the code is already used/not valid. THIS DOES NOT WORK ON XBOX.COM, THE CODE GETS REDEEMED AUTOMATICALLY!
