Is the confederate flag racist or not?

I personally don't think it is at all, General Lee made it look badass.

Thoughts on the confederate flag?

 

Generally it just gets a bad rap due to what the confederation wanted.

I don't think it's racist, but then again I'm white, and the things the confederation wanted wouldn't have negatively effected me. I could maybe see where it could get a bit edgy, especially if your somewhere down south in the US.

 

Hard to say. The southerner in me says that it isn't, the Confederacy was fighting for more than just the right to own slaves. However, I could see someone imagining it as a racist symbol in a similar fashion to a swastika.

 

this one is kinda hard to say some will say it not and some will say it is, it one of those topics you going to get alot of disagreements and alot of agreements that it not and or is a racist symbol

I think what you're saying is if the people supporting the "flag" are racist. The flag doesn't think we should have slaves. The stern-southerners do.

I live in the south, there are bad representations of the flag everywhere. I saw one confederate flag that said "White or die!" painted under it. Yeah its a scary place here sometimes.

Can someone explain more about the flag?
I googled and the first thing that came up was 'American Cult' so if I'm going to start judging right off the bat, yeah.. it seems a little racist.

KKK reps this flag so I'd say yes. I think it is just assumed to be racist. I'm positive some people who rep the flag aren't, but I think they're the minority.

 

But the KKK also hails the American flag???

In my opinion...

If something even suggests racism and the creator refuses to change it or work with it, than yes, it's racism. 'Cause although it's not flat-out racism and there may be another alternative meaning, it also means that the creator doesn't mind having the flag labelled as racism because it can be true as well in his views.

But, if even then it can't be changed and it shows racism non-blatantly, but has a GREAT alternative meaning, than no, it shouldn't be considered racism. It would be playing the race-card on everything.

In this car, since it's representing the states that they stood for which also stands for slavery, unfortunately. They can't change the history of the states, but they can change themselves within individually and can stand for their homeland.

 

Well I didn't necessarily mean that just because KKK reps the flag that makes it racist. I more or less meant that because they do, combined with the fact that it also represented southerners who were fighting for slavery, it is assumed to be racist. I also know that they weren't fighting strictly for slavery, but it was one of the reasons. It's similar to the Swastika imo, people see it and assume Nazi because it was a symbol adopted by them.

 

It doesn't necessarily symbolize racism. Plenty of Unionists were also racists.

Keep in mind it's one thing to wear the flag with the intent to be disrespectful, and another to wear it simply because you like the way it looks (and I have met people who just like the flag's look).
