"Chatbox" Discussion

Hello fellow Sythe members,

I came across a new idea that could help benefit the Sythe community while observing the forums. As far as I am aware, "Chatbox" was not on the stickied list of "Things to Not Suggest", but if there is already a topic suggesting this, I apologize in advance.

To start off, I want to introduce the WHY of my suggestion. I do not know if the other big named games such as Diablo III, WOW, LOL have topic-related chats, but I am aware that Runescape does have an official in-game Sythe chat. Runescape is a big and successful part of Sythe, and I feel that it at-most should improve its chatting capabilities.

I understand Sythe is partly a marketplace forums, where users start threads to sell or buy necessities. I feel that an upgraded chat feature, with patience and desire, could help benefit the community, in both fields: 1.) Marketing and 2.) Community liveliness if chosen to, but its definitely not a necessity to make this chatbox for marketing, which is why its mentioned later in this write-up.

Background:
I do not know about most of you, but I typically like to enjoy chilling in a chatbox with people that are either discussing topics about a game or playing the game together. I feel that runescape's in-game chat is just not achieving the goals it could compared to other chatrooms. A typical chatroom service I use is called Xat. Is it very-well supported, with many chatrooms and users. As far as I am concerned, there are 0 chatrooms dedicated to Runescape services. This sent me a message: "No runescape chatrooms on this huge computed-affiliated service? There has to be some gamers here."

Looking through xat.com chat-rooms, it is mostly filled with chats dedicated to lower-level games and sports. With the popularity of Sythe and its constant population, A Sythe Xat chatroom would be filled with people that just wanted to chat.

Xat offers many accessories and options that allow the people running the chatroom to be in complete control. The list of actions can be found here:

Xat chatrooms also provides its own currency system, where users can purchase powers - http://xat.com/web_gear/chat/GetPowers.php which allow the user to create fun effects and smilies.

Aside from basics, upon creating the chatroom, the owners can edit it upon their complete discretion. This includes making the chat a members only chatroom, which would mean an online trusted moderator or owner would have to make the user a member in order for him to type into the chat.

Here are some of the Pros I came up with:
1.) Allows for more in-detailed discussion of desired topics
2.) Allows for Sythe members to become better acquainted with one another, ei: private messaging, private chatting, etc.
3.) Xat chats allows for owners to make "tabs" in the chatroom. Hence, a user could click on the "Runescape" tab, directing the user to the chat section of only Runescape-related discussion. So the chat could be diversified upon topics with the tab option.
4.) Would be as instant as the other people you are chatting with. Instead of possibly waiting for hours for a reply on a post, the person whom you may be looking to exchange comments with may be online in the chatroom, allowing for quick and hasty discussion.

Cons: Feel-free to reply with anything you dislike or see as a con.
1.) Trading - Can really go either way. This topic was not meant to detach trades from the forums, so I do not think trading should be implemented in a chatroom.

Just incase you did not feel like reading what I had typed out, my suggestion is for an improved chat setting for games featured in Sythe topics (mainly RS). It would be a great place for Sythe users that seem to lurk on the forums to enjoy chatting with playing their favorite game. In no means would the chat be attempting to steal any of the forums glory, it would just be a more personal way of members getting to know each other, play the game, and talk about it.

Feel free to reply with any thoughts. Just an idea of mine. Not trying to start an argument, just trying to start making friends that are interested in the games as me, without waiting for a PM

Been denied loads, pointless really. Would make the forum less active.

 

Must not be under "C" on the DNS list. I thought there was a significant difference between irc and xat, being xat is more than looking at blankness and text. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Thanks.
