New XBOX to ban second hand games.

They will not allow you to borrow, or buy second hand games and you can only buy them new and use them on your system only.

Thoughts on this.

 

PC is somewhat like this. If you own a Steam account, you can only play games on that account. Then again you can just log into another PC with that account.

They basically want to stop people reselling games to others and therefore they lose a profit. No doubt PS3 may follow this theme too.

I remember the good ol days in the early 2000's going to your local game store and picking up some cheap PS2 games.

 

after reading the story its just wild claims.

If I was microsoft I wouldn't do this, especially if sony is doing it. Would give people another reason to buy xbox over ps3.

 

Hasn't been confirmed as of yet, and I would assume it would be down to the gamer manufacturers having to run servers to do this lookup, similar to checking for an online pass on specific gamertags - I doubt Microsoft would want to pay to maintain 24/7 servers forcing players to login to play games, as a single fault in this server could bring down all players playing the console simultaneously. Whilst it is possible that you might need to register a game online once, I doubt this would be the case for the single player components of the game (online pass style system).

 

I'll be pissed if they do this, me and my brother share games that aren't all about online, assassins creed & GTA ect.

 

i wouldn't read much into it, these type of statements are just to stir up buzz about the product to keep people reading about it, its a marketing ploy.

 

After reading it I'm with Delta on this one. There are no sources or anything so I doubt it's true. You've gotta remember: People do lie on the internet for publicity!

 

I think moving forward microsoft and sony will be pushing more for you to purchase and download games directly to your console, which would inadvertently get rid of second hand games.

I imagine for at least the next generation of consoles physical media should still be available and tradeable.

 

With game consoles I would still prefer to have a physical copy of the game, yes digital downloads are awesome I would still like to have the disc.

 

I agree. It also saves a great deal of bandwidth for those who don't have unlimited internet haha.

 

i Agree i have grown quite fond of collecting the steel books from the special editions of games. I have heard alot of rumors surrounding the new xbox. I choose not to even pay attention until Microsoft say something themselves.

 

I wouldn't mind it as long as they made XBL Gold free like it is in PSN.

But I've always bought my games new, not saying I pay $60 for every game, because I usually wait until they're on sell or I get a frequent customer gift card from Best Buy for X amount off my purchase. So I usually end up only paying $30-40 for a game that's a few months new.

On another side of notes, PlayStation is doing the same thing. They've already filed a patent for a design that is similar to Microsoft's.

 

Shit like this will put stores like CEX under alot of strain.

Maybe not on the next console but it will happen in the end,so many people have flashed boxes/buy second hand games.

With those buying method's game company's will go bust and Game won't have any games to sell

 

Im a diehard xbox fan but their just making it really hard to love xbox after hearing all these new 720 rumours ..
