I'm really trying to get into Skyrim. But I need help...

I feel so overwhelmed with the game, there are so many quests and quest-lines I never have any idea how to unlock them. I think main storyline, I am about half way through, I just completed Alduin's Wall.

My biggest problem right now is leveling. My guy is so weak..it's taken me like 2 weeks just to get to level 16..meanwhile I see others start new files and get to like 30+ in one day..what am I doing wrong?

I tried getting smithing I think it was up for some levels, but that seems to be incredibly expensive to do.

How do I get a lot of gold? Where do I sell things like dragon bones and whatever else they drop (hides I think).

How many quest-lines are there besides main story?

And lastly...can anyone link me to an in-depth skill guide? All of the "fast methods" seem to be patched. I'm really struggling leveling any non combat stat.

I love the game, but I'm clueless...it's my first Elder Scrolls game so that's a large part of why I suck at it. Help would be appreciated greatly.

Killing dragons is pretty good, but just exploring in general is good money. Start a quest line, and just stick to that one, like the College of Winterhold or something. Selling your loots from that quest line will give you quite a bit of gold. You can make lots of gold off of getting 100 alchemy, watch guides on youtube. Then you could get something like smithing with the money you have. Exploring/questing will get your cmb skills, and other skills up a lot.

Loot everything you can and sell it, also complete mini-quests, you'd be surprised at how much money they make.

As for levelling up, you just have to keep playing. I prioritise my combat over anything else.

Use this site. Running around aimlessly just takes up more time than necessary and makes the game boring. Just look things up and do what interests you. You will level up much faster if you actually know what to do and where to go. You can collect all the weapons, armor, find any location, do a particular line of quests, earn a skill, etc. You can look up anything you want on here and will make it much more enjoyable.

Also you'll eventually have more money than you know what to do with. As you discover more areas and level up, you'll start getting much better loot. Dragon bones and scales are good cash and are easy to get. Search every area you find. Good loot is pretty much everywhere. Don't pick up useless items and take up weight. I made a lot of money making Daedric armor. Gloombound Mine has 22 veins, which will get you a lot of Ebony ore.

Powering through the main quests shouldn't be your first priority, it'll get very hard for you if you try to complete it below level 20 (if you don't change the difficulty down to novice to accomplish the really tough parts, I'm sometimes tempted, but I've held out!)

Kill everything, do side quests, search for words of power by speaking to Angeir and asking "have you located any words of power?" This provides good leveling opportunities, and it's nice to have shouts late-game. You also are exposed to unique items such as Dragon-Priest masks, all of these priests can be found where a word of power is found. Last bit of advice, WALK TO YOUR DESTINATIONS, don't fast travel. You'll run into wild animals and dragons, you'll discover a shitton of places around the map, making it easy to fast travel later in the game when you can't be fucked to walk everywhere.

Smithing, enchanting, potion making, all of these non-combat skills are usually things you don't train right away, your main focus should be combat skills when you level up. At a low level, with bad combat skills, it's impossible to get the gold required to fund these skills.

You get gold from doing quests and raiding EVERYTHING. If you see a chest or a barrel, chances are there's upwards of 50 gold pieces laying in it. 10 chest later and you have 500 gold, and you've only been playing for about 20 minutes. Not to mention raiding monsters after you've killed them, going into a high-populated dungeon will make you crazy rich. Mines, falmer caves, spider caves, draugrs-infested ruins especially.

There are two main quests. Slaying Alduin, and choosing Stormcloaks (Ulfric) or Imperials (General Tulius) to help win the war in Skyrim between nords and Imperials.

Play normal, you'll get more enjoyment out of it. There's no "fast" method to beating the game, Elder Scrolls are infamous for hours and hours of gameplay required to actually get "good"

I love the game, but I'm clueless...it's my first Elder Scrolls game so that's a large part of why I suck at it. Help would be appreciated greatly.[/QUOTE]

    Hope this helped.

That helped A LOT. I've started getting more into it, the quest-lines are picking up and I'm starting to get the hang of it. Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain all of that. I really appreciate it.
