Compaq desktop, gone for good ?

Hello everyone,

this is probably for the ones with some decent computer knowledge.

Basically I have a compaq desktop, probably 5-6 years old .. and a few weeks ago I went to switch it on as normal (there was no problems the last time I was on it) .. and all that happened was one of those 'beep codes' .. the beep was one short beep, followed by one long beep.

Now I read around and asked a few friends, and they seem to think it's the motherboard .. beyond repair apparently.
I'm no good with the internals of desktops so I was wondering if anybody could give me any advice ?

I'd suggest taking it into your local pc shop and im sure they'll be able to sell you the parts and fix it or let you do it yourself, 6 years is a long time to have a pc though it might be time to buy a new one.

 

I suppose you are right, it's just frustrating as there was no issues with it atall ! It was still as speedy as the first day I brought it ! And I've only got this little netbook I am on now .. no good for playing anything !

That beeping is similar to my old computer and the problem was actually the power supply. I bought a new 400W power supply I believe and it lasted another 6 months before the motherboard died. Then I build a new PC
