I don't see the excitement in the careers of today.
I'm returning to highschool for one more year just to get extra credits because I don't know what is out there.

What's your dream job ideas? Maybe you could help me find mine.

There are plenty of things out there that are great do to.

When I graduated in 2010 I wanted to be a NSA agent. It seemed cool to be doing all of that top secret stuff. I ended up signing a baseball scholarship and my focus completely changed. After a year of baseball and good grades I applied to work at NASA and got it. I work a semester then go to school for a semester. Its sort of like a contracted Co-op program. It also guarantees me a job when I graduate college.

I don't know how you are academically but there are always very interesting government jobs, stuff that would be entertaining every day you go to work. At NASA, I worked in the Space Station division and would train in a model of the station then go back and work in the secondary command center. Fun stuff and it is different every day. I learn a lot.

My advice, if you like technology, major in something that can label you as an Engineer or Physicist. Use that and Co-op and intern wherever you can, it lets you see if it is something you will enjoy and also is experience that can go on a resume. COOP AND INTERN! That is my main advice. You just have to try things out man, you will run into something you love.

How I basically figured what I want to be doing (which isn't so set-in-stone) is that I tried to think about what my passions were. My main one was cooking (because I've been doing it since I was about 6), so I figured "culinary management". Like I said, it isn't so set-in-stone because I haven't really seen what is out there that could really instill an interest in to something I would want to be doing the rest of my life.

I had no idea what I wanted to do after high school either.

I got a trainee ship in IT (easy / get paid/ short term / not a waste of time) and realized I loved it.

Maybe you should try a trainee ship / intern ship in any field you are interested in. Might be surprised by how many different roles there are in that career path.

I'll probably look into getting into business or something considering I excel at economics and my uncle is an accomplished business man himself who can induce me into the world.

I dropped out of high school my freshman year, learned how to program and all about computers. Got hired over a college grad when I was 18 writing software for companies like Time Warner. In my field of work, it's all about expertise... School can only get you so far, I said screw the conformist education everybody received and I educated myself. I don't look back on any of my decisions and I have no regret. ;)

That is an extreme circumstance though... not everyone will have the sucess you have had. So since it is highly unlikely id say go to a community college (cheaper for one) and kinda toy around with education to find out what intrigues you.

I'm sorry but since when do Geek Squad fix computers. I believe they trouble shoot and then call the real experts or they just ship what ever they got back to the manufacturer.

When I finished School, I went and did Science at College, did that for less than a month. Didn't enjoy it, dropped out.
I then applied for an Apprenticeship in Business & Admin.
I did 8 weeks work expeirence, which was alright. Helped my cv a bit.
Went to a few interviews, nothing much happened. Then finally got a job doing CAD (Computer Aided Design)
Tbh, I enjoy this job a lot. So much opportunies where I work right now.
I'll be going to College in September to do Building studies.

Chances are, your life will not go the way you want. I didn't think I'd be doing this a year ago.

You've got to ask yourself, do you want to go into a career in which you'll be doing things you actually enjoy, or do you want to go the more lucrative career?

I can tell you that most of the people becoming analysts for Goldman Sachs/accountants for PwC/etc. aren't going into their fields because they discovered their love for finance and accounting.

These suggestions are great, but the thing is; I dont really know what is out there. I went on a few college/university sites to see what the courses were(opportunities/program ideas), but I really can't find a specific job that would be fun. $30-40/hr job, Im not too big on money, aslong as I survive and am able to do something worth a lifetime of work and not hate it, I'd be good.
Can't really find these jobs though..

I wouldn't say the excitement from careers has gone, it's just become more difficult to find an exciting one or one that you really enjoy due to too many people looking for jobs currently.
