He is 17 months (1.5 years) and he can't speak yet, he only makes screeching sounds?

Many people have become aware of this and are saying it's a problem; is it?

Not really he may just be a late speaker, they normally pick up there firsts words from 12-24 months, it's normal. But if you're really concerned he should be taken to the doctor.

Chosenn One I'm the guy your parents warned you about.

I started speaking at around 2 or further down the road.
I got a 17/20 for my year 12 English exam.
Your cousin is fine, probably just trolling at an early age haha :)

But then again, not to scare you, late or slow speech development could be a sign of a developmental disability such as Autism. I wouldn't worry much about it right now, but if it continues and the baby can't speak around the 2 year mark I would worry. I am no expert, so please consult a doctor and just don't rely on the opinion of an internet forum full for 12 - 15 year olds.

I wouldn't be too concerned at this point. It is something to loosely keep an eye on, so that if he is still showing no signs of speech development down the road you can take him to a doctor. But everybody learns at their own pace and some later than others :)

You can probably help by talking to the baby a lot, sounding out and repeating small words and sounds etc. I'm the eldest of 4 and have been around during the first few years of all of my siblings lives, and so I've got a bit of experience with "baby talk." However, they all developed at different rates, and my youngest brother could only say "da" until he was about 21 - 22 months old. He speaks just fine now :)
