Legal action IRL

Is it possible if player a lures player b and player b gets their personal info and threatens legal action irl? Huge debate in my clan atm

 

Someone else asked this a few weeks ago and a lot of people said yes. I don't remember why though

 

Player b has no case. Something that isn't against the rules of a game won't be against the law in real life.

This is kind of true. The complete reason why he has no case is because he doesn't own his account. Jagex owns Runescape in it's entirety. That means your account, your items, your gold - everything. You can read so in the ToS. Which means you have no grounds to sue in the US, but some other countries have odd property laws. If his account gets hacked and the items are stolen that is different, because that is data tampering and that is illegal.

You have no legal ground to sue. You have only the right delegated to you by Jagex to the gold and there is not right for you to sell. It would be like renting a car and selling to someone and getting ripped off. You had no right to sell it in the first place.

 

Luring is part of the game and you can't take legal action to whom ever lured.

But, if this guy that wants to sue the other guy can turn around and take privacy action I know that for a fact because a member in my family took legal action to some one who was threatening them and found there info on the internet.

 

The lured is the idiot for falling for it. It is part of the game as said, and they can't do anything about it.

 

If you sold gold you wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they didn't pay because you don't own the gold it always belongs to jagex

 

I believe the only country currently that considers your in-game items as yours is Japan. A Runescape player (Person A) recently sued another player (Person B) that hacked his account and stole his items. The court recognised the in-game items as the property of Person A.

 

I find this to be lies the courts can't go against runescape T&C

The first 'Western' country to recognise the goods as property of the player.

Taking legal action through Jagex? this will only get you banned for rwt. For selling the gold you are breaking the rules that you agreed to when making the account

falling for being lured is their own fault imo if they fall for it they deserve for being so dumb
