What do I main?

Hey there LoL'ers, I am in a bit of a dilemna atm with LoL. I love playing many champs and I love the uniqueness of every champ, but I've been having trouble deciding what I should main. Coming from Dota 2, I always mained hard carry which is equivalent to ADC. Thing is, same as dota as well, I love playing the mid role, its just so versatile and I love the idea of its your fault essentially if you screw up and your the reason why you won the lane, this is if we take out the factor of Jungler (BLAME JUNGLER 4 EVERYTING!!), but you know what i mean. I also love the Jungle in LoL, it is completely different to the mechanics of Dota 2 and how they really can change the game so I've been playing them as well. Also I love playing SOME top champs such as Rengar and Jax.

So... what can I do to narrow my choices down, I know everyone says its better to be really good at one role than be mediocre in 3 or 4.

Of course in normals, I'll play every role but I'm referring to ranked.

I like to carry games and I would like to think I'm really good at last hitting but LoL positioning to me is very hard as it is different to Dota 2.

I'll add the champs I like to play in each lane

ADC : Caitlyn, Vayne, Graves, Ezreal, Varus

Jungle : Lee Sin, Maokai, Xin Zhao, J4, (Will start trying Nocturne)

Top: J4 (yet to try, but i know its good), Jax, Riven, Rengar

Mid : Twisted Fate, Kassadin, AP Nid, Malzahar, Ryze, Annie.

If you want to hard carry, positioning is key...

I would recommend practicing with ADC's and practice positioning in teamfights.

I'm biased, as I love playing AP mids, but I do not see why you can't main more than one role. If you like to carry, I'd recommend playing mid/ADC, as mid can impact other lanes quite a bit.

 

Ye I love AP mid, and their general squishiness (other than ryze) and how they are 'glass cannons' well at least thats how I like to play em. It just gives me so much satisfaction to see so much HP taken away from one skill (TF cards, Nid Spear GG). Thats why I like rengar top as well and build him squishy as SUPER ASSASSIN.

 

You can hard carry with certain champs in mid and top. ADC usually isn't the one to carry a game. They get zoned out in team fights, so unless your positioning is great (Which most times it won't be) you're gone.

 

If ADC is zoned he's useless as Stickly said. Also in ranked games it's difficult to carry the game playing ADC because usually you have to stay on your lane for 15-20 minutes and other lanes can feed hard.

I suggest you trying all lanes at ranked games and then you'll know which lane you want to master to carry ranked games in solo queue. I used to play all lanes but after playing some ranked games I realised that playing ADC or TOP gives me much less influence on carrying my team than playing MID or JUNGLE.

 

Have not played a ranked game yet but when I play draft believe it or not I carry with teemo mid and annie mid possible 20 kills per game. Usually its easy to carry a team for me with ADC. Usually you get more carry playing with a mid lane champion. All depends on lane assignments and opposing champions you cant carry every game. Jungling is probably the best position to play for carry.

 

Indeed, jungler can help all lanes and he can carry almost every lane. But start playing ranked games, it's much different than playing Normal Draft Pick - in ranked games you're getting allies and opponents in similar skill than you have so it's much more competitive.

 

I think playing in mid really proves how great a player you are. There are some with massive poke that can take an entire team (perhaps not ALL at once) if fed pretty hard. I don't believe all champs that are fed can take an entire unfed team, however.

Mid is great because it really tests how you'll position yourself for engaging and disenging - Whether it be just to poke or kill a minion (taking as little damage as possible), or disengaging from an incoming enemy gank (warded OR unwarded).

How you can handle either situation of an enemy gank will really shine light on where you should be positioning yourself in lane, and continued experience with certain champions will let you know how valuable that champion is to you depending on what the enemy picks (if itemization can even help counter their mid lane + jungle).

 

I am pretty much behind everyone else with mid. The best thing about mid is that if you get good it is one of those positions that you can carry many times (which makes you sort of feel hero mode) However, as a mid, you want to also make sure you are supporting your top or bottom when it is necessary. In other words, I see too many mids gets carried up with themselves, and you want to avoid that at all costs.
