    hard drive help

So I had a virus or something, so I factory rest my computer, because I didn't have any files I cared about. After my computer was factory reset, my hardrive space went from 500 GB to about 10 GB. I lost all of my disk space. So I was wondering if there was any way to get it back. I'm running windows 7 on a Sony Viao. Not sure if this matters but I have Intel core i5 and a nvidia geforce graphics card. Please help! And anyone who posts saying I'm a dumb ass for resetting my computer, will be reported for spam. I know I shouldn't have done it.

Download WinDirStat and upload a screenshot. It will be obvious then if the computer thinks you have no space or whether it is all used up

Most probably need to reinstall windows completely (as in full reformat, with a drive wipe then install windows which should reformat the drive ready to be used). All that space probably hasn't been allocated correctly.

Reformat and delete the drive partitions on it, all of them. Unless your hard drive is faulty then you should get your full 465GB back.

Uhm.. Just look at the Disk Management and it will tell you what's up. You probably just have it partitioned wrong or differently.

There you go, there was 431GB of unallocated space if you look at the picture again, it's the black part. Good to see you fixed it.

You could have extended the C drive, or you could have made the 400 something GB your data drive, that way all your important files are not in the same place as your OS. good for quick re-installs since you don't have to copy files from 30 different directories and wonder if you got everything.

Judging by his question, I do not think he is the type to do reformats on any sort of regular basis.

    hard drive help

I had a similar problem on my old computer also. It was a HP laptop and i had a virus so i had to factory reset. And when my 400GB went to about 15GB, But I had to leave the computer to service to make it work.
