Your thoughts?

As we know Mrs. Obama thought saying "Merry Christmas" was insulting other religions. If I must say If your not part of the christian religion then dont listen to us. We should not stop saying merry Christmas cause other people get insulted. What about Hanuka ? and all the other celebrations that religions have? Shall they stop as well? Why only Christians?

PS. This is not to insult anyone, just wanting your thoughts.

 

Sounds pretty dumb to me. If someone doesn't celebrate Christmas (or any other holiday), I don't see how it could be considered offensive to wish them a happy holiday. You're right, they shouldn't take offense; most people don't say "merry Christmas!" as an insult to someone who doesn't celebrate it, they're merely trying to spread some joy.

 

Meh. I think its fairly okay to assume most people are Christian or at least celebrate Christmas when you see them on the street. If he was talking on or around Christmas... I see no problem. He is also a Christian.... So I don't see any problem with him saying in a personal manner "Merry Christmas".

 

Honestly, I think this whole thing is very stupid and has got so out of hand over the last few years.

Christmas is originally a Christian holiday, and if you are not Christian and/or you do not wish to celebrate Christmas, then that is completely fine. But to get all insulted if somebody wishes you a Merry Christmas when you don't celebrate the holiday, is just plain stupid. The point is that the person was trying to spread some joy and wish you a happy holiday, whatever that holiday might mean to you.

People are so worried nowadays of being insensitive, or stepping on other peoples toes or insulting somebody, that the original meaning of things like Christmas get completely lost because everything is changed & trimmed down to minimize the chance of offending somebody else. But if you get offended by the message behind somebody saying "Merry Christmas", which is that the person is in fact trying to spread joy & love your way, then you are an asshole.

 

i think she just said that because if she were to say Merry Christmas people would make a big deal about it and people would talk all kinds of stuff about her. If she doesnt say it it has less negativity towards her than if she did.

 

I think she was trying to stay as secular, and as neutral as far as religions go, as she she possibly could. In modern days, Christmas has almost NO religious implication apart from nativity plays.

 

Being politically correct all the time is a great way to be a tightwad.
