Hi Sythers, and welcome to my guide. This guide is proudly written by myself to help inform people of the Do's and Don'ts of the Name Sales Market. Formerly requested by a close friend, I've decided to do week and weeks of evaluation in the section itself, and have compiled them all in one thread for you.

Pros

1.Name Hoarders- Every once in a while, you see one pop up. These are the guys who bring in a massive surplus of rare names, so we all can have a golden opportunity to own one. Don't be discouraged when you see 30 replies on the hoarder's thread and none of yours. Everyone had to start off somewhere. Also, see Trade with Trusted Users.

2.Rare Names-They are the main focus of today's booming market, and pretty much make up the backbone of the whole section. In fact, most of us go in there to look for rare names anyways.

Examples of Rare Names

Generic Names: Common, everyday words such as 'Hi', 'Lol', or a well-known name such as 'God', or 'Runescape'. Also, dictionary words do not count unless it has met the criteria.

Short Names:These names can vary from 1-3 Characters, and its rarity may also vary. See Generic Names above. A 1 Character name is obviously very desirable because there are only 36 possible combinations, and is the shortest name out of all. You could be Woodcutting Yew in some discreet place in Lumbridge, but you are suddenly PM'ed by some random person saying 'Omg nice name!@!@ add me pl0x!'. Enjoy your load of E-Fame.

2 Character Names: Much more common standing at a total of 1,306 total combinations(676 2 Letters, 260 1 Letter/1 Number, 260 1 Number/1 Letter, and 110 2 Number Names). They are widely popular among pures because of its simplicity and looks.

2 Letters: Highly popular among pretty much any type of accounts. Names like 'Xq', 'Jn', or, 'Tz' are ok if you old unoriginal name replaced. If you are a more serious collector, I would personally go for the names with actual meaning, like 'Hi', 'Yo', 'No', etc.

2 Numbers: These names are extremely rare considering there are only 110 possible combinations, and since the display name update, ALL of them are taken. If you have a name such as '69', '89', or '18', give yourself a pat in the back, because they get rarer and rarer everyday.

1 Number/1 Letter(Vice-Versa): Again, these names serve as 'Fill-in-the-gap' type of names if you can't find an original name, then go for these.Nothing much to say other than being a popular all-around name as well. Examples are '5a', 'B8', 'U3'. I wouldn`t classify them as super rare unless you have a name like 'C4' which stands for a plastic explosive.

3 Characters: Not much of a Market for them at this time and year, but still give a nice kick. Rare 3 Letter names include 'Cat', 'Dog', and 'Lol'. Also 3 Number names that have repeating numbers such as '333', '666', or '999' can also be classified as rare. Any 3 Character names with both letters and numbers, or a mix of random vowels or numbers, and numbers, are NOT rare at all. See Non-Rare Names.

3.Competitive Bidding- When I say Competitive Bidding, I mean people who are willing to buy your name(s) no matter what the cost is. Nothing thrills a name shop owner more when they see 3 or 4 people fiercely bidding on a single name in 10M, 20M, or even 30M increments. Keep your prices realistic though. Do not overprice a name at 200M when its really worth 50M.

4.Price Checks- If you know your name is rare, or has an actual meaning to it, it wouldn't hurt to post a price check on them for a second set of eyes to evaluate them. Do a little research on them, and look around other forums, and see how people price their names, and what they are selling. Don't be let down when you have something from ancient Greek Mythology. Do a little History lesson and post a small line or two on your thread so people know what they are buying.

5.Gaining the Trust of Customers- It's not always easy being the underdog of the community,however, there are ways to overcome it.

Know your General Forum Rules: This includes bumping, spamming, scamming, and not being a troll or prick. People look for these things in a first impression, and you want to leave a positive lasting impression.

Be Community-involved: Help out other fellow name traders. If they post a question about Rare Names, and you just tell them 'Wrong section, reported for spam hahahaha!', thats a big NO. Be courteous to newer Sythe members because they can be Ex-Members from other communities such as Powerbot or Rsbuddy. They are on a thin moral tightrope, and if it snaps, they may not come back to Sythe.

6.Trade with Trusted Users- Getting a vouch from either an Admin,Mod, or anybody else that is deemed trustworthy is a big step for Newcomers. Most of the time, it usually other people that you are trying to start a legitimate business and a name for yourself. Once you get your 1st Vouch, your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th vouches will come by naturally. It also wouldn't hurt to befriend another trusted user, as there is a great chance that he/she may know other trusted users.

7.Stay up-to-date- If you find yourself with a clutter of names to sell, take some time to manage business and get the job done. If you run a large name shop, try not to let it drift apart from you. I know we all have real-life issues to deal. But if you have a buyer who wants to buy a name from you for 40M, you wouldn't want to make him wait a week, you want to sell it now! Another technique is to broadcast your names gradually. What I mean by that is, if you have 50 Rare Names to sell, you want to put up about 10 at a time. Once you get the bids rolling, add a few more names from time to time. You want to surprise a buyer with a new name. There's no suspense if you put up all 50 names at once.

Cons

1. Scammers- We've all dealt with them before. The Names Market is always sketchy regardless of how 'Trusted' they are, so always Trade with Caution.

Report the Scammer via RAS Forums

Never go first, and never be pressured to go first, unless you truly deem them trustworthy. Donator Ranks, Join Date, Post Count, and Vouches may not always signify trustworthiness.

Donators: A scammer who just joined a week ago may be a $200 Donator, could be the money that they have scammed in the past, and or a possible Ban evader, and their ranks can give false pretense of trust.

Join Date: Anybody who has joined from 2005-2006 can be a scammer. There are plenty of scammers in the past. Scamming is not something new to everybody.

Postcount: Same goes for Postcount. They can post a thousand times in Runescape General Forums, and 10 Times in the Blackmarket, but doesn`t really show they are trusted unless you really dig in their past and check if they have made long, useful posts, and not daily bumps or spam messages. Finally, the most controversial of all, Vouches.

Vouch Count: You can trade with somebody with 1,000 Vouches and not trust the other guy with 500 Vouches. But what if I told you the 1,000 Vouches guy had all trades of 1M and below, and the 500 Vouches guy having all trades of 100M or more? Does that change your mind? Quality vouches over Quantity vouches. Some examples are: Trading with Top Goldsellers; Video, Viou, Punkerpunk13, etc. Middleman Vouches are also extremely valuable either you used an MM or have became one yourself. If you became one, a vouch for 10M for a Runescape Account far exceeds any 1on 1 trades of the same Gp value, because both parties put their trust in you.

2. Non-rare names- When I say Non-rare, I mean names that are a flat-out eyesore, or just simply hard to understand. If 'Names Sales' were changed to 'Rare Names Sales', there would be infractions galore for the majority of us.

3 Character Names(Random Mix): 'Zjn', '12b' , 'D28' '2 Y'. These names names are just ridiculous and shouldn't be considered rare. There are thousands and thousands of combinations for them.

Fill-in Words: 'Replying', 'Associates', 'Intermingled'. These names consist of Plural -S, Past Tense -Ed, -Ing. They have a meaning, but doesn't mean they are necessarily rare unless it's something like 'Noobs', 'Woodcutting', or 'Owned'.

Multispaced Names: Haven't seen much of these around, but with the Display Names update implemented, it's possible to still make them. Only exception that would make Multispaces rare is if you have an original login name before E-mail Logins(November,2010).

2 Word Names: Names like 'Blitz Ko', 'XxRanged Ko', and 'OoKill NoobsoO' are not rare. These were popular Pker names back in old-school Runescape before December 2007(Trade Limit). If you have a name like 'Range Pure' or 'Chuck Norris', it might be considerd 'Unique' only.

Repeating Characters: 'Owneddddd', 'Powerszzzz', 'Dds Ko0o0o0'. Not even close to rare. May be a good staking name or twins, but that's pretty much it. Repeating numbers and letters such as 'Aaaaaaaaaaaaa',or '111111111111' may be 'Unique'.

Offensive Names: 'U sck c0c', 'Hump My Cat', and 'S md n00bs`' are considered offensive by Jagex. These names are worth next to nothing because there may be a chance your name will be deleted by Jagex.

Words with Numbers: 'Bob3541', 'Dog635', '23King62', are the worse names you can find in Runescape. The numbers, stated in another guide, are unnecessary characters that replace the real word. The majority of players have these kinds of names so it's not too hard to spot one.

3. Lowballers- Ah yes, the lowballers. Don't you love em? They lurk and scour every nook and cranny in hopes of finding their dream name for less.If somebody were to sell the name 'God', chances are there is going to be at LEAST 1 person that will bid 1M on it, and what's worse, they will want you to PM them back if they win(Like thats going to happen).

4. Wrong classification of Names- We cannot blame people for taking much pride in their Name Shops, and not to mention the number of sales they have done. Bravo to you! However, classifying what's is not really what it's meant to be is another story. People who call '2 Character' Names such as '3b' a '2 Letter' Name, or any Fill-in words, such as -Ed or -Ing and calling that rare.

5. Misleading titles- Sometimes things can appear too good to be true, and most of the time it is. You see a thread called 'Selling a Very Super Rare Name' and to your excitement, you click on it and find that the name is something like 'G M T', 'D Club 69' for a ridiculous A/W Price of 200M.

6. False Bidders- Another very annoying scenario where you try to sell a name and you think you found the right buyer/seller, and he either doesn't reply to your PM's or makes up some bullshit story about getting hacked. It's a waste of time to argue with them so just report him for Spam if you know somebody is false bidding.

7. Multiple Threads- Again, can't blame you for trying to sell your names. There has been a lot of times where people remake their thread selling the same names but wtih a different thread title like 'Selling Amazing Rare Names'.Seriously, how hard is it to PM a Mod for a thread title change? Also to mention, people that bump all of their duplicate threads, and smother your bumped thread to the bottom.[/SIZE]
