8-core setup for <$1000

Anyone have any advice for an 8-core, 8GB RAM, preferably 1GB video card for less than 1k USD?

The only 8 core processors available at that budget are the Bulldozer CPUs from AMD, which utterly fail in comparison to comparably priced 4 cores from Intel. Might I ask why you need 8 cores? Cores =/= performance

If you think 4 properly performing cores will turn out better in this case than 8 terrible ones, then by all means I'll go for it <3

 

Intel i5 2500k will destroy anything you throw at it. Some people say it performs better than some i7s in terms of gaming. Plus more programs and games are made to work with quad cores rather than 8 cores.

Sounds like an awesome setup IMO. Perfect for gaming and a very nice balance between awesome rendering specs and awesome gaming specs. It should play pretty much any game you throw at it, and any differences in rendering you experience between that and a 2600k or AMD equivalent will be a matter of seconds.

Just curious, but what are you paying for the above setup? Just to get a perspective

Soo.... $1350ish. Never gonna buy it, though. Not enough money </3

Are the dual video cards really necessary?
I just want to be able to run games at standard/high settings and render 3d stuff quickly haha.

Get a more generic case to save money, and you could always look to get a 580 which you can oc.

The 560 Ti's are very nice cards, so no you shouldn't need two of them for most games. There's only a few games that will really push the 2x560s, such as BF3, Shogun 2, Metro 2033, Crysis, etc.

Also, the case is unnecessarily expensive if you are on a budget. You could easily knock $100 off of the price for your case and still get a pretty nice case.

The radiator pretty much needs fans.


Build looks fine, but IMO, I'd go with a single 580 over two cards in SLi, simply because, Less Heat, not every game is optimized for two cards, can always add the second one later if you need another.

 

i7 extrame is the best

How easy is a computer to put together from start to finish?
(From having the parts to running Windows 7 (or 8))

It's pretty easy provided you know what you're doing. Although it can be easy to break something within a matter of moments. I'd recommend you get a friend to do it who is a computer wizz if you are afraid you may mess it up. Installing the software (Windows 7) is easy though.

I got a core i7, 16gb of RAM. And 2gb memory card, and what it does is if the 2gb isn't enough for gaming, it takes another 1gb off the Ram. So its good. I bought it for around 1.2k$ converted price

 

You sir have no idea what you're talking about lol.

@Jiwi, don't buy that processor. It's a server cpu, definitely not something you'd want in your home PC. Unfortunately you're just not gonna get an 8 core worth having with your budget. Seriously though the i7 2600k and i5 2500k are GREAT processors. The core count does not mean a whole hell of a lot in terms of performance. The 2600k for example will pretty much render videos about as fast as any commercially available processor at a reasonable pricetag of like $315ish and it's only a 4C/8T CPU... not to mention it's pretty much the cream of the crop for gaming. Sounds like your best choice at that budget IMO if you can settle for something like 1 560 Ti and a more generic case/motherboard.

I ran it for you using my i5 750 and ATI 6770.

As far as I know, the i5 750 is the generation before the 2500k, so the 2500k will naturally perform better.

 

About to run your test on my mac. I needed that.
Anyhow, don't get the Xeon, they are only useful for servers where you want to get multiple CPUs on the same Mobo.

Mine has 27 FPS and 2.06 CPU. My parents didn't let me get a real good comp last year, even though I had the money
