Aeonaxx, Time lost proto-drake, Grey Camel and Poseidus Information/Discussion thread

    Introduction

Hi, this is a discussion thread and also a guide thread about the four rare spawns mentioned in the title. The common factor between all these rares is that they all drop unique mounts that few people have (the camel also gives a title). This threads purpose is to give reliable information about each of the NPC's and their drops, so that if you ever decide you want to aim to kill one of them, you aren't lead by false information on popular fan-sites such as Wowhead or thottbot, often posted by people using anecdotal or simply plain incorrect evidence. It can also serve as a place to ask a question and get a correct answer about these monsters.

    I. What is a rare spawn? [x3zf]

As the name obviously suggests, a rare mob is on a different spawn timer than normal mobs in its area, or that monster only spawns x out of every y instances you enter. While most rare monsters you stumble upon [usually whilst leveling] are technically considered 'rare', the monsters discussed in this thread are in a completely different league than them. Do not expect to kill these monsters within the first hours, or days of camping them.

    II. Useful Programs/AddOns/Techniques [slp6]

These is likely the most important section of this thread, so please read carefully. The following addons are an absoulte must for camping any rare in the game at all. Without these AddOns, your chance of beating someone to get to a rare first are almost zero. These AddOns include:

    Name: Npcscan (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info12995-_NPCScan.html)

Description: What this addon basically does is scan your WoW cache for monsters that have entered your creature cache. If it detects the name of a rare monster being cached, it plays a very loud and distinct noise (the default being the sound of war-drums). It will also make the edges of your WoW screen flash red, further alerting you that it has detected something. Lastly, it will display a message in the centre of your screen saying what the name of the NPC is that it has detected, as well as a picture of it. All in all, this is an invaluable AddOn that any rare-camper should use.

Please note that after it has detected a rare monster, you need to clear your cache for that monster to be detected again. To do so, navigate to the root directory of your WoW folder, and delete the cache folder (don't worry, this causes nothing to be re-installed in your folder. The folder gets remade automatically when WoW reloads). Advanced users could alternatively go to their Wow folder > Cache > WDB > enUS [for US users obviously] > and delete the creaturecache.wbd file.

    Name: Silverdragon (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info6606-SilverDragon.html)

Useful addon for rare-hunters, this AddOn keeps track of all the rares you have found, by giving you data such as where you last saw a rare-mob and amount of times seen. It also plays a notification when a rare monster is detected. All in all, definitely a worth while AddOn to download, but not as necesarry as NPCSCAN is.

    Name: Keyspam (http://www.mediafire.com/?otrnjjthtbmjjpu)

This isn't an AddOn, but is one of the most useful tools in camping rare monsters. What this does is that you can use it to avoid getting auto-logged out for being AFK, so you can remain logged in your character even if you aren't at your computer for days. To use this program, simply download it using the link provided, install it [virus scan it if you wish], open it and then remove all the keys in the program by default. Add a new key, and make the key whatever your move forward key is. Set the sleep timer to 30000. Do the same with your backward key, once again setting the timer to 30000. Then click on the dropdown arrow to choose your World of Warcraft window. Finally, leave the 'loop' setting on 0 so it loops infinite times. Then click the spam button, and wallah, you will now never go AFK.

You may be wondering, "hmm, that sounds kind of dodgy..wouldn't that be against Blizzards TOS?" The answer is, yes, it is. However I can nearly 100% guarentee you that you will NOT be banned using this tool. I have used it for well over 5 months, many times in stretches of over 24 hours at one time, and I have never had anything happen to my account before. Blizzard doesn't care in the slightest for these kinds of programs.

However, if you are still worried, there is other alternatives. You could do things like use a logitech g19 keyboards macro system to remain un-afk (also against the rules however). Some people also simply put their mouse on top of their computer fan, to move it slightly to remain un-afk. Choose whatever method you want, but I 100% recommend keyspam the most.

If you are having difficulty getting keyspam to work, post on this thread for help until I can get some pictures up.

    III. Time-Lost Proto Drake [pav4]

Probably the best known rare-spawn to drop a mount, and it has a notorious repuation for being very hard to find and kill (sprouting jokes about the possible pun on it's on name, 'time-lost', see what they did there?). However, despite its repuation, getting this mount isn't as difficult as some may think, mainly due to reductions in it's minimum spawn time.

Firstly, lets get some basics out of the way. Time-Lost has four spawn points. These are:

    Frozen lake [31, 69]
    Water fall [35, 76]
    Brunnhildar [51, 71]
    Ulduar Ravine [52, 34]

These are listed in order of importance, as of the opinion of a person who has personally killed 32 time lost proto drakes. These are not the locations of paths, these are the direct place which they spawn on. I will provide information on how high to go and exactly where to stand tomorrow when I get images.

Second thing you should know, is that time lost proto drake is a rare-spawn of a rare-spawn. Another rare, vyragosa, shares a spawn timer with Time lost, and it is heavily weighted for vyragosa to spawn instead of Time-Lost.

It used to be that after vyragosa spawned, you have a 6 hour 'grace period', in which it was guarenteed that neither vyragosa nor Time-lost would spawn in that time. However this is no longer the case, and spawns have reported to be as low as 45 minutes after the killing of Vyragosa.

An item that you will want at least one of is Snowfall lager (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43472). This is used to tag Time-lost with an instant cast ability, so that he doesn't get stolen from you by another person, and then safely fall to the ground (it is a rather long fall, and may kill you if you aren't prepared). If you're camping a spawn point however, it is unlikely that you will need this as if Time-Lost spawns at your spawn, he will agro instantly onto you.

The actual fight of killing him is extremely easy, as he only has 18,900 HP. Level 72's have killed him with no problem whatsoever.

    His drops include:

Reins of the Time Lost Proto Drake [http://www.wowhead.com/item=44168] 100%

    Time forward talisman [http://www.wowhead.com/item=44682] 100%

    Abandoned adventurers satchel [http://www.wowhead.com/item=44663] 100%

Will finish this guide tomorrow. If you have any suggestions or queries, feel free to post them. If I posted this in the wrong spot, please feel free to move it moderators. Thanks!

    Couple of questions:

If you were to suggest to anyone which mount to camp, which would you say?

Also, for TLPD, where would you suggest camping?
