Narcotics Anonymous - My Path to a Drug Free Life

I have recently been attending a group called Narcotic's Anonymous. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using drugs. I am currently on day 36. Narcotics Anonymous is based on attraction rather than promotion so I offer advice on the subject of drug addiction, however I am not preaching you change your lives; everyone has a choice.

It follows a 12 step program, the same as Alcoholic Anonymous. It also involves attending meetings, where other people share there experience, strength and hope and has a lot of literature that drug users who use addictively can relate too.

Good to see you're trying to help yourself from whatever your addiction(s) may be. However, I strongly disagree with NA/AA's force of religion as a method of helping people with physical problems. You can't replace one addiction with another.

You always replace one addiction with another. It's part of being an addict. I replaced drinking with working out and X with practicing shooting.

Hi Herman, thanks for your support, however NA/AA are not a religious groups in the slightest. It involves surrendoring yourself to a power greater than yourself. This power could rest inside of you, but for me it lies in the rooms of Narcotic's Anonymous. I couldn't arrest my addiction with the best intentions. Many people I have heard shared have been through recovery centres, prisons and institutions and have not found sanity without NA. Is that not a power greater than ourselves? My mind still tells me drugs are a good idea, but my Higher Power stops the insanity of my mind.

    Hope that helps, peace.

It uses "God" and "Higher Power" synonymously, constantly in the 12-step program. >_<

This is actually quoted for truth. Addiction lifestyles are only changed by finding healthier addiction. For some, turning to religion may just do that. For others, turning to science. Others still participate in activities, hobbies, or other things to keep them away from bad addictions. Even trading a hard drug addiction (meth) for a soft drug addiction (mary jane) is a good start.

Remember, quitting cold turkey is the hardest thing to do. Slow down in moderation, and make sure you have an excellent and prepared support network to keep you on the right track.

I quit smoking two years ago. Was the hardest thing I've ever done.

I've been involved with things like this, but it wasn't NA. Just a treatment for teenagers to go to with group meetings and all that jazz.

Was pretty helpful as well, I have no interest in smoking anymore. However, I do still drink but on occasions and I don't drink and drive like I have been. I haven't been behind the wheel intoxicated since I started the program. Just made me more responsible and changed how I view certain things.
