    Which desktop should I buy?

I am looking to buy a new desktop for under $1000.

I want the absolute best desktop that I can get for this price.
    Any suggestions?

also: I plan to use the computer as a bot farm for RS. Keep that in mind.

Looking for lots of ram, a ridiculous processor, and a graphics card that can handle anything.

    Thank you,

Are you willing to do a custom build? If you really want the "absolute best" in that price range, that is definitely the way to go. Also sad to tell you $1k budget won't get you a system that can handle anything. However, it will get you a very nice system that will do JUST ABOUT everything decently.

I can put together a comprehensive list of parts for the custom build, all you need to do is assemble them (or you can buy a custom PC from me :) link in sig). If you choose to go this route please include whether or not you need a monitor, mouse, kb, etc... or just the tower.

Where do you live? I bought my desktop off pcspecialist (http://pcspecialist.co.uk/) and they offer cheap custom builds. I mean, most things there are cheaper than cheapest online price simply because they buy in bulk with their supplier and can offer much cheaper prices. I bought this laptop from there, and my desktop, and I've never had a problem with either of them.

At least this way you can customise the desktop yourself, get it cheaply, and delivered to you exactly as you see fit. You can get a ridiculously powerful PC for about £1800 that would be able to run a stupid amount of bots. Like the best i7 processor, 24gb ram (2000Mhz), 4gb double graphics cards (like the 590x or HD 6990 etc.)... the lot! With any graphics card that is 560x or above you also get a free batman arkham city game which retails at about £35-45 :)

Actually a $1k PC would handle most games on max settings, theres just the few games that one setting kills your fps totally.

That's basically what I said tbh lol. It's not going to play BF3 maxed out with a $1k budget unless he hunts for open box deals day and night. My GTX 480 struggles to max BF3 (I play a mix of high/ultra, maintaining 30 FPS solid with vsync on, avg 40-45 without it). Certainly playable, but when I crank everything up to ultra, my avg is more like 25-30 FPS with dips to like 15 FPS. Not really playable. Add to that the fact 480s are getting rare now and no reputable stores sell 'em for under $325-$400, and it gets pretty hard to make a system for $1k with comparable performance. Another game I can't max is Shogun 2. Rapes my PC.. and mine was well over $1300 total. Not that I couldn't have cut some corners but just sayin, it'd be pretty dang hard to get max everything (as he implied) with that budget tbh.

I feel like a $1000 budget will do that for him.. I played BF3 on Ultra with my laptop that has a 460m 1.5gb and I only paid $1350 for it. It's iffy though in his case.

And as they said, build a PC. You'll get a much better one.

At what resolution? and are you sure about it being ultra? Because the 460m is a good laptop chip but nothing compared to a 480 and I couldn't get playable on all ultra, I had to do a mix of high and ultra.

Question, are you talking about the BF3 beta?
If so the ultra settings weren't unlocked. So g'luck with running BF3 beta max.

Besides that games like crysis and stuff would run pretty good.

    Dank's running 1080p I'm 90% sure he is atleast.

Pretty sure you're thinking of the Alpha, because Ultra was definitely there in the Beta.

also I'm having a hard time seeing a 460m running BF3 @ ultra, playable when my 480 can't even do that and it's significantly faster (hard to say exactly how much faster, but by a pretty wide margin let's just leave it at that)

BTW my averages were taken from Caspian Border, the (significantly) more demanding of the two maps available in the Beta, and more representative of the final BF experience. Most maps aren't going to be small arena/urban type like Op Metro

I'm telling you it was in the beta lol. I used the ultra preset myself until I realized it wasn't going to be playable. If you don't believe me man just look up videos, I'm sure there's vids all over YouTube of people adjusting their settings to ultra and stuff. They might have left certain things out of the Beta but the ultra settings WERE there lol.

So I put these together. Took A LOT of time. They may not be the best builds, but they're what I would probably pick from if I had about $1000. Feel free to interchange the parts and suggest changes, especially to the case because I suck at picking them. I put more than one option for the GPU in build 3 because I had a larger budget to work with. Some other stuff.. okay
EDIT: oh, and overclock the hell out of everything.

    Build 1

Cooler Master Mid Tower -- $90
    Cooler Master 700w PSU -- $80
    ASRock 1366 USB 3.0 Sata 6gb/s Motherboard -- $170
    i7-960 3.2ghz quad core -- $300
    G.SKILL Ripjaws RAM(3x4GB, 1600mhz, Tri-Channel) -- $75
    WD Caviar Black 1TB (7200RPM) -- $85
    LG Supermulti Optical -- $18
    2x Radeon HD 6770 1GB Crossfire -- $200

    Total = $1018

    Build 2

Cooler Master Mid Tower -- $90
    Cooler Master 700w PSU -- $80
    Gigabyte 1155 USB 3.0 Sata 6gb/s -- $100
    i7-2600k 3.4ghz quad core (3.8 ghz) -- $315
    G.SKILL Sniper (2x 4GB, 1600mhz, dual channel) -- $50
    WD Caviar Black 1TB (7200RPM) -- $85
    LG Supermulti Optical -- $18
    Radeon HD 6950 2GB -- $265

    Total = $1003

    Build 3
Cooler Master Mid Tower -- $90
    Cooler Master 700w PSU -- $80
    Gigabyte 1155 USB 3.0 Sata 6gb/s -- $100
    i5-2600k 3.3ghz quad core (3.7ghz) -- $220
    G.SKILL Sniper (2x 4GB, 1600mhz, dual channel) -- $50
    WD Caviar Black 1TB (7200RPM) -- $85
    LG Supermulti Optical -- $18

In order of best to worst for build 3..

This if you want 2 cards.
    2x Radeon 6850 1GB -- $360
Total for build 3 with these cards -- $1003

This if want a 1 card setup.
    GTX 570 1280MB -- $360
Total for build 3 with this card -- $1003

Or this if you want cheaper but almost equal 1 card setup.
    Radeon HD 6950 2GB --$265
Total for build 3 with this card -- $908

Or this if you want a cheaper 2 card setup
    2x GTX 550 Ti 1GB SLI -- $280
Total for build 3 with these cards -- $923

    yea
I played Ultra (1080p) on my laptop (during the beta on Op Metro, and on Caspian I just clicked the first or second option down a notch, I can't remember which one.). I don't know how much better your deal is, but that's what I did. Obviously lower FPS on Caspian though and I had to have it plugged in.. I haven't played many games yet besides the three Crysis, BF2, and a couple others so I don't have much to compare it to.

I played the beta(note my shitty prebuilt on low at 1080p got 15fps. oh so fun to play :p saying that, should gimme $1k so I can get a new pc ;D).

If ultra was there, well must be a higher setting choice then?
