1100T vs 2500k for editing/rendering?

I'm building a new PC so I'm wondering what I should get for my processor.

For rendering in Sony Vegas and stuff and I've heard the 1100T utilizes all 6 cores so it might be better than the 2500k?

I'm not sure though.

There's going to be a whole line of new processors coming out within the next year on a new socket and on the 1155. I'd wait for a six or eight core sandy bridge.

But out of the two you have, I'd go with the 2500k just to stay on the newer socket. Plus I'm not a fan of AMD very much but they're architecture is inferior to SB.

AMD are bringing out 6 & 8 cores soon enough, so if it's serious editing I'd wait, if not either oif them 2 will do fine.

I was really trying to stay under $1,000 for all my parts for my desktop, and I'm assuming that when the new processors come out sometime in Q4 that they 2500k/2600k will drop and then i will end up getting a 2600k

Intel won't drop the prices too much, maybe $50 at best.

 

They're close in video editing, sometimes the 1100T is ahead. The 2500k is ahead in pretty much everything else.

 

The next generation AMD CPUs at their early benchmarks aren't that impressive, Sandy Bridge is still a better chip. Like you said before, it'd probably be best to wait it out and get an i7 2600K. Maybe even and Ivy Bridge.

 

Well, it's possible there will be a cheap processor on the new intel socket. It would be hard to sell or make money if they didn't have ANY cheap ones under $500.

 

Ivy Bridge are there highend 1155 socket lol...
Cheapest I'd see would be maybe $450-$500 unless intel are generous.

 

Ivy Bridge is at most like a 10% gain on Sandy Bridge lol. They'll probably have high end models, but I would expect to see some mainstream desktop CPUs in the same price ranges we have now for Sandy Bridge. Does this mean Sandy Bridge will get price cuts? Maybe, but probably not. Just look at the Bloomfield/Gulftown processors.. Sandy Bridge is newer and pretty much out competes them entirely, but they didn't really get price cuts. I have no doubt we will see high end IB-E processors that are going to be every bit as expensive as the 990x for example, but that doesn't mean they're all going to be that expensive lol

On topic:
OP, you might see a slight advantage towards the 1100T in highly threaded applications but for literally everything else the 2500k will take the lead pretty much. The iGPU on the Sandy Bridge architecture is VERY efficient at encoding video, so it is definitely worth looking at. It might even be better than the 1100T, but don't quote me on that. Unless you already have an AM3 board or something, the 2500k is the better choice imo. It's hardly even more expensive and it's a hell of a lot better rounded in terms of performance. Neither of them are bad processors, but have you ever seen a Phenom II X6 at 5GHz on air? :/ lol

 

Get the 2500k mate, for one it's Intel and second it does an amazing job on your PC. Plus if you wanted you could overclock it from 3GHz to 5GHz+ if your into overclocking that is.

I've never used Sony Vegas, although I've heard it's had some pretty good reviews.

 

I'm buying a new PC too, but I'll wait for the new AMD gen.
