Books are being stranger with all people around the world. The movies, video games, MTV has replace books. I think it is a little bit bad thing. I am not against of these things but people around the world are getting addicted to it. i also play games and watch movies but not in addictive way.

It's a good thing, they're trying to extinct paper in the world so that tree's are preserved and the animal's natural habitat's are safe, also tribes and Aborigines are losing their homes due to log cutters. Books are still released and published, you can still go out and buy the hardback copy of a book, It's just more convenient to use new technology.

Funnily enough, one of the best sources of fibres for things like clothing, paper and whatnot is hemp. It's easy to grow and produces cellulose like no tomorrow. The issue is it's illegal.

There are crops grown specifically for such applications. I think you're abstracting the issue a bit: electricity is generated from mostly burning coal or nuclear fission. While it's more efficient, it's still having an effect on the environment. Plant and tree crops are renewable. The resources we use aren't.

I prefer a hard copy of a book rather than an electronic version, myself.

Sure its good for people to read, as it helps to develop vocabulary among other things. Now you have like e books and stuff, So I dont really see the need to print books anymore.

Plus id rather watch a movie than read a book. But I dont watch tv or do much of that.

I personally enjoy a good book now and then, it's a good way to relax. I really should get back into reading more often.. I have a few laying around that I haven't read yet.

You don't see many books nowadays. But, with the technology we have going, who needs 'em?

I wouldn't say that's necessarily a bad thing. It's just that the messages are completely different and people who write books tend to me more upstanding members of society compared to those that make music and movies.

We have to cut back on the processing of trees somewhere. Replacing documents and books with electronic copies is a good place to start. Now they just need to find out how to make clean energy to produce the electricity that runs all the technologies.

I think books are amazing, I used to enjoy them when I was younger but then the internet came along and I slowly weaned away from them. I got back into books not long ago though and it's a good thing to do when you're just sitting around and relaxing.

Although I read on the news today that kindles and such are out selling books now, so soon they may take over.

I personally love the feel of a paper book. Electronic books and programs such as the kindle aren't even close imo. Most trees being cut down were planted for that sole purpose. (in the paper industry) Furniture a different story.

I personally like the feel of a paper copy. I find it easier on my eyes to read as well. I personally find the technology gimmicky and annoying a lot of the time. It's useful, don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day if you read a lot you begin to appreciate paper, at least from my experience that's the case.

Movies tend not to be replicas of books, but rather abstractions of the books. They follow the same general story but authenticity is lost and the original meaning is very often lost to the audience. Books convey a story or message in a significantly differing way, and I believe you can take more away from them than the same story in a film.

I know exactly what you mean! I've tried to use e-readers and I've read numerous books as PDF files, and I honestly spend the entire time wishing I actually had what I was reading in hard copy.

I felt the same way about needing to actually touch the paper and smell the musk to get the real experience... but the convenience of totting around 4000 books, of getting college textbooks for free or for a severely reduced price, and with a bit of will power to overcome my uncomfortability I got from not physically touching the book; I got over it. The only thing I miss now is that amazing book smell.

I have no doubt I'll have to look at getting one for university, but at the same time, I suppose paper copies are a luxury that will often win me over. If it's a fictional book, a biography or anything else that I want to just sit and read in my spare time, I'd much rather buy the hard copy, but inevitably I'll most likely get the electronic copies for books I need for actual work.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_resource

As far as I'm aware, the uranium which is used by nuclear reactors is far from renewable. Sure, there's a decent amount still buried, but taking in to account exponential population growth and the required uranium isotopes among other things it's not perfectly sustainable either. It's sustainable for a time, sure, but do you understand what a renewable resource is?

Or are you just being a condescending douche for the hell of it?

I've never been a fan of reading, the direct cause of that is probably the internet itself :p

I'm not sure which I prefer over the other really. One of the reasons I love about books is that, while reading them, you are free to think about and picture what is going on in them(from how you understand them usually), and that makes stories all the more entertaining. You can't really get that from a movie as the 'picturing' is basically set for you. Also, since movies, etc. are limited time wise, you can get a better understanding while reading as books tend to get a lot deeper, at least imo.

On the other hand, there is something about actually seeing what is happening(even if it is a 'set' view) that is also very exciting. That might be because there are certain shows, etc. that aren't in book-form. It's easier to read words and try to picture what's happening than it is to see something that is pretty much only in visual form and then trying to see it in word form.
