    Love gaming? Look here

    Hello,

This is going to be a short and simple thread about what me and my friend are planning to do and what we are looking for.

Me and a close friend have been thinking for a long period of time that there is something missing in the gaming market and then one day it suddenly came to us that the entire scene is missing a place where we can all congregate and find reviews on the latest games, meet fellow players of your favourite games, hear all the latest gossip from gaming companies, share a game you are working on and most of all have a truly social place to keep in touch with people and share your personal gaming experiences or learn of other peoples!

So what is it that we are creating? To put it simply, a gaming social network.
Now you may be asking yourself "What use is telling us this" Well I'll tell you why, we are looking for people to get involved in the creation of the website!

What we are currently looking for

    • People with large amounts of experience in designing the graphical end of a website (or have great talent in graphical design).
    • People with access to decent servers that would be able to host the site/store project data during the building process.
    • People with experience/power to advertise us when the time comes.
    • People with real passion in everything they work on.
    • People with a large amount of experience in PHP, SQL and ROR.

Now the core idea of this entire project would obviously be based around the social network, building up a real network for people to meet, learn and enjoy gaming properly without being restricted to the same old cliche of uninteresting forums full of angry children spamming, flaming and raging but don't worry all your forum addicts, we would obviously not be getting rid of the good old fashioned forums/boards, but just think of all the additional bonus' you are opening yourself up to by entering the social networking scene.

Since posting this I have had a lot of people going on about how a gaming community is nothing new but I don't think I originally explained properly what was unique about this project so let me do so now.
This project is not simply a bunch of boards/forums and a little bit of a profile for you to mess about on showing what games you are playing etc... It would be a site where real life friends could communicate about their gaming experiences, new games they have purchased and the such while still having the whole social aspect of still being able to communicate about personal lives and such but not limiting ourselves to that as you may just think "oh what a shitty thing, might as well stay on facebook" we will facilitate the ability to organize large events in gaming via the forums in which you would meet new people to add onto the more social aspect of the site that would allow you to keep in better contact with the members rather than just over a private messaging system as most gaming sites have. I think the key idea here is, having the large community for large scale gaming and sharing but also having a social aspect to the website that would allow it to be a more personal experience that gaming websites are currently missing.

So now you have an idea what we are about and what we want to do in the future, if you're interested and want to hear more about this project please fill in the following form.

    Code:
    Aliases:

What you can bring to the project:
    Proof of this:
Or join us in our IRC >> Here <<

Please allow 24 hours for me to get back to you, I will try and reply ASAP.

To everyone who thinks we are simply trying to get free workers to do all our work:

So basically its like a facebook of video games? Thats really interesting and I would probably join up. I would be willing to help out, but unfortunately I don't have experience in graphic designing or server hosting etc. I would be willing to help out in an administrative position, you know enforcing rules, collecting feedback, etc. etc. Let me know!

In a sense yes, "A gaming facebook" however we're trying to strive away a little from just the original social networking idea in allowing it to be a real way to share instead of being spamming up with useless annoying posts.

We are currently not far enough into the project to be needing that, but I will keep you updated when we are closing into opening up as we are planning on a closed beta that will be invite only.

So you're looking for someone to pretty much take your idea and make it a reality for free? I'm sorry friend, I don't think that there are going to be too many takers.

Not at all, there is a small group of us already who are capable programmers but we are not capable of the graphics front (which is what we are primarily looking for) along with people more experienced with servers and such. We are going to be putting our own money/time into the project and are going to putting a massive amount of effort into it, but it is not physically possible for the group of us that their currently is to complete the project without huge struggles.

As for "for free" no project starts off by someone saying "I'll pay all of you guys this money" most of our programmers in their spare time and work to feed themselves/families or are still in education, obviously we are not saying we would not be willing to pay at all but obviously at the start of the project we are going to have limited resources, hence why we are looking for people who would be passionate to put time/effort into this project without simply doing it for a little bit of cash, obviously their would be cash put more so into the future but you can't expect a small group of programmers to fork out a load of money to hire people to help them.

But you're asking people to spend their money on servers for your endeavors. Why not collect a pool of money contributed by ALL of your group, so that ONE person doesn't need to supply you with the servers.

You clearly don't understand the idea of this at all, we are simply looking for people who are willing to help us out in certain aspects that we are not currently capable of doing. We are not looking for free things or free workers, we are looking for people who believe in our idea and want to be a part of the creation of it, we do have a pool of money that we are putting into it but we can't afford to fund every single thing plus who said people have to pay for servers, it could be some guy sat home with a server in his bed room, please stop jumping to assumptions.

We are fusing social networking with the forum aspect of it as well as giving people the ability to see all these reviews, stop thinking of it as just a forum, we are giving people a real chance to meet other people and learn about things they love and give their opinions on things.

If you don't want people to jump to assumptions, don't allow them to. If you have a legitimate idea, try making your topic a little more clear.

On a side note, you DID ask for someone to provide the server, and servers DO cost money, hence you're asking for someone to pay for the server + traffic to that site.

What he was asking was clear. Stop complaining/trolling here to +1 your post count. This guy and his team have a legitimate idea, and legitimate skills. However they can't do everything by themselves and need others to help out. Flaming him is not going to help anyone, and it also makes you look like an idiot.

First of all, I don't care about my post count. You think I'm a kid that actually prides himself on the amount of posts he has on an online forum? YA POST COUNT = COOLNESS. No. I'm not trolling, I'm stating that he is requesting a lot, but hasn't really proven what he would be contributing himself.

Perhaps he should say what HE'S putting into it, other than the idea itself.
You are one really sad kid. I was staying on-topic to the discussion, and was contributing thoughts. If I interpreted what he was saying this way, I garuntee there are others that have felt the same.

He's requesting a lot, for not providing much himself.
I'm just pointing it out. Don't try to troll me to +1 your post count.
If you were a logical person, you'd see where I was coming from.

I'm not getting anything original in this. Most of what you're trying to achieve is already handled by a combination of Machinima, Facebook, Forums, Newgrounds, and Kongregate. I don't see the point of overlapping these, since they're so similar that there is no point in using more than 2 of those sites at any one time.

Sounds like a good concept, but the actual Idea is lacking in design.

Try editing your post with your actual, exact plan for what you are trying to achieve (EG GUI sketches and so on)

    Short? My eyes hurt now.
OT: It sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure if many people could put this into action and actually get it going. It's very hard to get forums/social network website going. You start out with basically less than 10 people on the forum, and it's hard to get people to register on something that there are alternatives to, and the alternatives are already huge. But good luck with it!
