What do you do when you recieve more change back?

This has happened to me a few times over my 23 yr career. Though most recently yesterday it happened again. I went into Taco Bell to order my grade d quality taco's and paid with a $100.00 bill as it was all i had on me at the time. The girl gave me my change back and i glanced at the change and noticed there was 5 20's not 4 immediately. I looked at her and looked at the money and had a inner debate. I must admitt i decided taco bell didnt need the 20. I however battled with the idea that she would potentially lose her job. I know it sounds shitty but i find these things to be karma. I recently lost nearly a half ounce of dro hours before and was extremely pist. I figured this was kind of a pay back of sorts. I balanced the idea of how happy someone was going to be when they found my bag and how stoked i was to eat for free and make 20 bucks. Id like to hear others thoughts on this because i honestly have never handed the change back and i dont expect others to either because they never have... you can only learn from your mistakes and hopefully she learned to count a little better.

btw if for some weird creepy way she ever reads this and she lives in pasco county and works at the tb on little next to lowes i will compensate you the money because i honestly love going their. All you need to do is tell me your name because i memorized it and its not common =)

Regardless I personally keep the change as its usually something small like a few dollars. Anything major however I'd definitely point out their mistake as ethically for me, I see it to be wrong with large amounts but not so much if its only a few dollars.

 

I would never give it back. If people can't count change then its their fault. Plus, places like that shortchange people all the time.

That's insane. I lost a 100$, 4 gs, and my scale the other day. I then went to McDonald's and paid with one of the 100$ bills that I got from some kid who bought an o off me and was given back 5 20's plus 10 (yeah I ate a 10$ meal at McDonald's, lol). I didn't hesitate to take the money as it was a day after I had lost ~200$ worth of shit, and I couldn't of been happier.

The only difference for me was it was some punk ass kid working behind the counter and I wouldn't of minded him losing his job.

No i would not give back the money. Its a big company that probably makes 100s of millions per year. So no i would not give it back.

 

I always keep the change unless it was a small local business. Chains don't need the money anyway.

macdonalds and places like that sure, local taco place, we only have one in our area of I would say 400K people (West of Brisbane Austrailia) I gave the guy a $50 and he ended up giving me three $20's , two stuck together. I gave him the extra $20 back due to him been in a very small bussiness, working in same small shop I know how owners can be, and they treat you like shit if your tills are under. Big food chains fuck them. I would have just smilled and worked of, same as yourself i worried about the guy and him lossing his job.

I never really check my change but if I did notice that I got more then I should have. I would probaly give it back depending on how nice the person serving me was, even though mostly it's the company benifiting not them.

 

I never do, that is someones job, and if their draw is short, then what? They get fired, because you really had to keep some money? That is rude, i hope it happens to you in the future, not trying to be mean, but you could of cost her the job? What if she just had a kid and her parents kicked her out and she is trying to pay for an apartment and didn't get any sleep, and was tired. You stole 20 dollars from her draw and she got fired. Congratulations, your a prick.

 

If I'm in a hurry, or if there's a big queue behind me, I normally don't bother to check my change. But I would return it, if they over changed me, unless it was a small amount.

 

Usually when they hand back change, I don't even bother to count how much they gave. If I do though and notice they give me a few dollars more, I'll give it back.

 

If it's something crazy and they accidentally gave me a whole extra 20 back (which is possible if they're pressured or whatever) then I'd probably give it right back.

But for a dollar or two, even if I was shorted a dollar I don't care much, tends to work out even in the end anyways.

 

If it was a lot, I'd feel guilty and give it back.. if it was a lot, like they handed you the wrong note because they were stressed out or something it could cost someone their job if the money in the till doesn't add up, so I'd give it back. If it was just change, chances are I wouldn't count it anyway, and I don't think it'd hurt anyone if I got more than I was meant to.

Big places are more likely to be more strict with their employees, any money missing would come out of their paychecks. So odds are you're taking from the employees, and not the chain itself guys. These sorts of stuff can build up and no professional store would let it slide, as it's always counted in the end.

I wouldn't return it if the cashier was some punk that mistreated me (hasn't happened yet).

 

Return it . Everyone makes mistakes, capitalizing on other peoples mistakes/misfortunes is dishonest and scamming in my eyes . I get a good feeling by being one of the very few honest and courteous younger people left around these days, just the other day this pizza place was packed out and was a real madhouse i had called my pizza in before hand and it was ready but they assumed i had already paid because there was a line of other people who had but i hadnt and automatically said no i didnt pay yet and didnt take the pizza without a thought of doing otherwise. I think it honestly has alot to do with the way you were raised because the thought didnt even cross my mind, I pride myself on my integrity when it comes to things like this and holding doors open for people stopping for people who need help on side of road ect I was raised to .

Im not a white knight type of person or even really all that polite in most conversation but being honest and holding a door open for someone isnt hard so i do it. Knowing im doing the right thing is more rewarding than a bit of pocket change .

 

It is a great feeling to open a door for somebody. I will agree with you on that one.
