Will I get a sale?

To start with, obviously I'm very new to sythe so have a complete lack of ref's or reputation on this site, and from experience in other forums with other games etc. I know it's hard to sell any big items straight up due to trust issues.

My question is, do I have a shot at selling my White Partyhat without myself being scammed (ie, will any reputable traders spare their time for me?)

I haven't played runescape consistently in several years now and have a lvl 119 f2p (mid 120s p2p) sitting around with an unused white party hat. And between university expenses, the cost of buying a new desktop and hopefully affording a trip over to the states (from aus) in the new year I'm looking to find some cash. It will likely be a week or two before i get around to listing my phat (and indeed account too if people show interest) on the market threads, so as to allow me to get used to how things run on here. But what I really want to know are there any tips from more veteran members to help me appear more like the genuine seller I am instead of just another scammer which I can already see run rampant around here.

Besides only trading through an OMM and posting as much proof of ownership as I can without risking an RS account ban what other tips can you give?

Most secure payment methods? (for me too, I don't want someone disputing the transaction and getting their money back along with taking my phat)
Gifting through paypal? Western union? Direct deposit(obviously only local buyers)?

method of trading - OMM (I guess this is a must)? Any unreliable OMM's to avoid (maybe PM me this to avoid unwanted flaming)?

Approximate cash target - What should i be looking at? I want to sell cheapish so as to get rid of it cheap, but I know if i make it appear to low then buyers will assume it is "too good to be true" and that I "must be a scammer"

Sell your partyhat to a reputable trader through Western Union.

Use an OMM through western union OR playerauctions

 

Punkerpunk13, video etc... Just BEWARE of imposters. If someone is offering you too good of a deal its probably a scam. Always ask for a PM from these reputable users. They may not give the much but its a basically a guaranteed safe trade with these users. DON'T FORGET ASK FOR A PM WITH THEIR MSN IN IT.

 

1. ALWAYS use a trusted MM/OMM (I'd suggest OMM for such a large trade)
2. ALWAYS ask for a PM from the individual. You want to be 100% sure you're not talking to an imposter.
3. Try to sell it to one of the more trusted buyers on sythe (Superman listed some above).

If you're careful, you can get a good trade for your phat. As long as you use an OMM, I actually would recommend against trading with one of the most trusted members because they offer less than others.

Always request a PM from the OMM and all traders that has their MSN in it.

 

Agreed with rsaccounttrader, i mean if you use a OMM and use a method such as playerauctions nor western union I'm sure you'd be good.

 

Thanks for all the advice. Yea I've seen people can chargeback through paypal and withou a delivery order it's hard to protest so I started up a WU account and i'll look in to PA. I can handle the fees, as well as a slightly lower price from a trusted member if it means i actually get paid.
I'd rather lose $100-150 that everything.
Thanks again for all the help and should any of you be interested in it too I'll post the trade thread in a day or 2 once i get my screenies/proof of ownership etc set up. (still not used to my mac, maybe i'll have to jump on to my old PC desktop for this)

 

If they say they can't pm you (omm's or highly trusted) do NOT sell to them, no matter what they say.

Always triple check the PM, and verify the msn address.

Take their msn address (on msn) and google it.
Check if it's the REAL person or a imposter.

 

If you really want to be 100% safe, I would like to suggest PlayerAuctions. Basically, they act as OMM for you, charging 10%, but if you provide proof (tradescreen before and after, or video of trade) then they cannot chargeback at all

 

Perfectly said, do this, and you should be fine.
Although, they dont buy at a high price, i think approx .50/.
May depend on buyer.
