    Music Homework Help

Well I'm taking a music class, and I do not understand a couple of questions. I did most of my homework, but these questions I absolutely do not understand. Your help is much appreciated.

    1. If the last sharp is G, the key signature is ____________

    2. In the key of D the following notes are always played sharp __________

    3. When all F-C-G-D and A's are sharp, the key signature is ____________

    4. Name all the notes that are sharp in the key of F#(sharp)____________

I am not asking for you to give me plain old answers. I want the answers with the explanation of how you got it. I want to learn music instead of cheat my way through it. Thanks!

All these answers can be answered by looking at the "Circle of Fifths".

    It's like a clock. For example, 1 o'clock = 1 sharp. 2 o'clock = 2 sharp.
Since G is at 1 o'clock, it will have 1 sharp.

The order of sharps is FCGDAEB.

So, if we are looking at G, it has one sharp, therefore the sharp would be F.

Another example, D is at 2 o'clock, so it has 2 sharps. By looking at the order of sharps we have the first two, FC, therefore the 2 sharps in the key of D is FC, in that order.
