Everybody is at fault. People should come to good for the better, not try and make things better for their side only.

I think the Dem. right now because the Republicans have proposed another 1 week deal that they have rejected.

Well, judging from what I've heard, the Democrats have proposed to allow for ~30 billion in budget cuts, but the Republicans want ~60 billion. I don't understand why they don't just compromise at 45 billion..

To be honest, a government shutdown for a week or two could save OVER 60 billion, so its a smart move for Republicans..

I was listening to NPR and they said that 840,000 workers would be on furlough if this happened. Even if all those workers are only making minimum wage (7.25$) and working 8 hour days, 48 million dollars would be saved on salary's alone. But there is also other factors such as fuel costs and other things.

Defense and Military operations would still be run, as well as Law Enforcement. I believe the government has become too bloated anyways and that going to back to its core value of defense of the nation, even for a week, could be beneficial, and a real eye opener for people.

I don't really follow the news much anymore. Could anyone tell me what would occur if the government 'shutdown'? I'm not understanding fully. Would all government funded organizations/operations stop? or continue?

The military will not be paid 1 penny (most soldiers) during a shutdown, but will receive the back pay when the government resumes business.

Both. They have to agree on something. Obama has every legal and constitutional right to veto any bill he deems inappropriate.

60 billion doesn't even scratch the multi-trillions in deficit.

Obama wanted to spend more this year and then less next year. The 33 billion is 33 billion less than current spending but 73 billion less than what he wanted. The 63 billion is 102ish billion less than what Obama wanted. So, the Republicans have gotten 3/4 of what they wanted. Right now the main problem is that the democrats refuse to pass a bill that defunds Planned Parenthood (anti-abortion), Obama's health care bill, and money to implement anti-global warming stuff.

The United States Armed Forces are considered an "essential" service. Therefore, they will run as they normally would.

Yes they will still run, but their families are not going to recieve their pay checks on time like they are suppose to. Many military familys really do have to live between pay check to pay check. Not getting these paychecks on time will really cause problems for these families.

I know for a fact that the Navy will be paid, on time, regardless of whether or not there is a shut down of the government. My brother's CO discussed the situation with the command and they were informed that it would not affect them in any way.

Yeah it seems like the media is changing what there saying on this. Looking into it more I am getting mulitple stories. If anything they will still get paid, it would just become delayed. It would pose a problem for those families with mortages to pay.

America's enormous debt finally seems to be catching up to us. This might be the start of our government breaking down. It's very scary actually.

Both sides are to blame, but I would think Democrats more because they believe in more spending.

It didn't happen since they were big boys and agreed to something really simple they should have done days ago.
