Technically the government wouldn't be able to monitor all of the sales. Yes you could just go down to your local store and buy it then get taxed that way, but come on now. Do you think people will be willing to pay MORE plus tax then they do to their dealers? Nope. Yes there is the comfort that nobody has given you any mixed stuff and you wont OD on some random crap someone added to your Marijuana. Also if it was legalized then the drug war in Mexico would drastically increase as people trying to smuggle it over here to make a large profit selling it under the market price would increase. Thus making illegal products even more abundant then they already are. Yes the government should legalize it because honestly it doesn't hurt your body but it does have the risk of leading you to heavier drugs. If they make it legal they would also have to apply SOME rules. Like smoking cigarettes it shouldn't be allowed to be smoked on school grounds, parks, the metro.. On the other hand you should be allowed to smoke it in your front yard and not be arrested for doing so. This will probably lead to a bigger debate like legalizing heavier drugs like meth, or heroin.
