    Considering getting into servers.

So I've played WoW for a while and have some opinions about gameplay, and I'd like to experiment with it by means of a private server, pretty much for research and gameplay philosophy.

I'm fairly fluent in C#, and I've had experience with game scripting, though not full-on nitty-gritty programming.
I can read that tutorial up there and make a server just fine, I believe. Never had any experience with private servers, but I can wrap my head around it just fine.

But what I want to do requires more than just a simple server, and I wonder if current tools would allow me to try these ideas.

Basically what I want to do is make a character progression system like Star Wars Galaxies had, pre-CU.
Essentially, it was a very flexible no-class, no-level system that allowed for incredibly emergent character combinations to be created.

Then later on, SOE changed the game to be more like WoW, and the game then had classes and levels. Turned the only good thing about the game into crap, really. Later, an emulation project (SWGEmu) created a server system that would emulate the old version.

As was done with that project, I would like to do the same with WoW. I have the progression system all laid out on paper, and I'd like to put it into the game itself.

Would this be a feasible idea?

    Thank you for your time.

EDIT: Also, from what I understand of MaNGOS, if I follow that tutorial then I should roughly end up with a server similar to an official one, yes?
