Five Steps to Fixing Your Internet Connection

Written and Assembled only by The Black Sun

Before I start, these are the steps in which I take to help reset my internet connection when it does not work. My ISP is Comcast Cable, and when my computer tells me I'm connected to the internet and can't connect to the internet, these are the steps I follow:

Step 1. Check Your Internet Status
-Before you go canoodling with anything, make sure your computer says you're connected. If your connection status tells you that your internet is unplugged then refer straight to step 5.

    Step 2. Reset Internet Plug
-After checking for an internet connection with no luck, unplug your internet cable (Ethernet cable) for a few seconds. Then proceed by plugging the Ethernet cable back in. Usually when there is a problem with your connection the light in the Ethernet plug-in should be blinking a yellow light every few seconds. This could be a helpful hint. Open your internet browser and check for an internet connection. Still having issues? See step 3.

    Step 3. Reset Your Router
-After resetting the internet plug-in, proceed to troubleshooting with your router. From experience with my router, I usually will power off my entire router cabinet, which holds both of the routers that power the entire house's internet. After leaving it off for about a minute, turn the power back on. Go to your computer and open your internet browser. Still having issues? Return to your router. If powering off my router doesn’t work, I will usually proceed to unplug everything going into my router and then will power it off. While the power is off, plug everything back in. Power your router on. Go to your computer and check to see if you have any connection to the internet. Still having issues? See step 4.

    Step 4. Reset Your Computer
-If resetting your Ethernet cable and resetting your router haven't worked, try one last thing - restart your computer. Usually this step won't resolve anything but if there are important updates to be downloaded, then it could help. After resetting your computer, check your browser for a connection. Still having problems? See step 5.

Step 5. Contact Your Internet Provider.
-This step can be annoying and frustrating. Call the customer service of your internet provider. Tell them that you are having problems connecting to the internet and tell them the steps you have already taken to resolving the problem. The most common thing they tell me when I call is to reset the router. Hopefully your internet connection will be fixed by now. Any further problems should be resolved with the Technical support of your ISP.

Hopefully this Helps. I'll do my best to help any questions anyone has!
