[TheEliminatorX] Guide How To Shutdown Your Pc Anywhere At Home!

How to shut down your pc anywhere in your house :

    Think of the scenario

You're upstairs watching tv, a programme that you have downloaded from your computer and streamed onto it, the movie finishes and you want to go to sleep, but the computer is downstairs and you cannot be bothered to go.

This Guide shall show you many methods you can use to shutdown or restart pc's on your network. We'll look at:

    Command Lines/Shortcuts
    Windows Tools
    3rd Party Apps

    What you will need

You need to have an administrator account on the Pc's you want to shut down .

You will be required to have either the IP address or machine name of the computer or computers you want to shutdown remotely.

This below was created using Windows XP. Vista offers the same commands and a few extras.

There is a tool that comes with Windows that we will mainly use, the command is “shutdown”.

If you open up a command prompt (Start > Run > Cmd)and type “shutdown”, you'll notice that there are a bundle of arguments you can use with the shutdown command. The -m argument followed by the machine name, and a -r will shutdown your computer. The best to explain it is through examples.

In the command prompt, try this :

    shutdown -m \\computername -s

    Let me explain:

The shutdown command gets the ball rolling
-m \\computername is the name of the computer you want to shut down
-s tells the other computer to Shutdown.
There Are some more commands also :

-r tells the remote computer to Restart
-l tells the remote computer to logoff
That is all there is to know about command lines, now for the next section :

    Section 2 : Shortcuts

This method uses the same “shutdown” command as above. The one difference is that we put the command into a shortcut so that we can use it faster.

    Right click on your desktop
    Click on “New”
    Click on “Shortcut”
    In the path put in:

    shutdown -m \\computername -s

Call it something, and you can change the picture of it if you want to.

Now this will remothely shut it down in one press of a button. Easy? YES!

    Section 3: Windows Tool(s)

To get into it, open a command prompt and type “shutdown -i”

    The graphic front-end will open.

In here, you will see the same options available to you as the manual methods above, but now you can browse to see which computers you want to restart

There isn't much more to say about this one. Let's look at another utility below.

This Section requires you to put in a reason why you are restarting/shutting down.

    Section 4 : External Utilities

RCL– Remote Computer Log On is a very handy programme, it doesn't look amazing , but it's much more efficient, powerful and user friendly than the other sections i have posted.

You can log in or log out, shut down or restart more than one computer if you want to. There is also a feature to disable internet acess.

Thank You for reading my Guide, sorry for no pictures but they really aren't needed in this one!
