Get music by searching Google

Please do not use this method to download copyrighted material you do not already own.

This is a handy alternative to torrents or using a peer2peer network when getting music (and other stuff) online. Very useful if you can't use filesharing networks, but can access Google.

Go onto Google and type in a search like this:



And then choose a result. You should be presented with a list of audio files. Right click and choose "save target/link as", and save the file wherever you want to, then open it the downloaded file and listen!

Here is a breakdown of the syntax for the search:

"index.of" (mp3|m4a|wma) "aerosmith" -php -html

"index.of" brings up only results which contain this term. We only want to bother looking at results with the title 'index of'. You don't have to change this.

(mp3|m4a|wma) helps bring up only files with these extensions. These are audio file extensions. If you were searching for a video, you would use different extensions e.g. (wmv|avi) and so on.

"aerosmith" is the name of the band here. This is where you type in whatever stuff you want to find and download.

-php -html are the types of code in websites we don't want to include in our results, as we're unlikely to get direct downloads from these.

So - syntax should be like this:

"index.of" (filetype1|filetype2|etc) "searchterm" -omit1 -omit2 -omit3 -etc

You may have to search a while to find what you're looking for, as some links on Google are fake and redirect you to sites you need to register on or pay for to access the content. However, for my search, I was able to find Aerosmith music on the third page of results, here:



And as soon as it was downloaded, it was playable:

Remember, piracy is illegal, and you should at least already own the music before you go downloading it.

 

I believe that it's only illegal if you distribute it? Does the person that download it still get in trouble, if they do not "know" that it was pirated?

No, as far as I am aware it is illegal either way and I do not endorse it. There's a shedload of legal stuff that's available by using this method, and you're not just limited to music. Try other file formats to look for pictures e.g:

"index.of" (jpg|gif) "batman" -php -html

Read my previous post, and just to clear things up, piracy is illegal whether you're downloading or uploading the copyrighted material, I'll add a note to the start of the guide.

Oh, and I legally own the Aerosmith track I used in the example, so cry me a river if you have any complaints about me "pirating" it.

 

Wow, great guide 8/10. I have to say sometimes, my torrent experience slow speeds, but this is great. Wellm this guide include vidoes or movies rather than pictures and music? I want to watch the American Pie series again lol, but I don't want yo use utorrent...Answer this mate.

This guide will have limited success for video of any sort, because the filesizes are too large for servers to usually host. Your best bet for watching video clips is by using either Veoh or YouTube.

This guide is perfectly legal, it's just as legitimate teaching how to torrent or use Limewire, which is - to anyone who knows what they're talking about - very different to giving instructions on how to pirate stuff.
