Are you struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder?

I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but I wanted to offer my own personal advice for anyone who needs it. I've been diagnosed with BPD for the better part of my life, and it's a fucking trip, I'll tell you that much.
It's also really hard to talk about as most people, friends and family, don't understand it, or you're worried about being judged. If you have any questions, I'd really like to help out. I don't have it figured out, I probabaly never will, but I know that having someone who's in the same boat as you makes the horizon look astoundingly brighter than it currently is.

Would you be open for me asking some questions just for curiosity's sake? If not then thats perfectly fine.

 

How does it make life difficult for you?

Do you have more trouble talking to friends than family? (or vice versa)

On any medication? Is any medication available to you?

Anyone else in the family diagnosed with something similar?

How easy is it for you to walk up to a stranger in public and talk to them? (this can be anything like buying something or asking for information)

 

I have no problem answering questions, if I feel its too personal I'll say something. Other than that all anything you want.

I often have issues with empathy and my own personal emotions. Before I understood it and started to get help I was very suicidal, emotional and hard to be around. Often there was no inbetween, you were great or I hated you.

I find it easier talking to anyone but my family which isn't too say they aren't supportive or loving, I have an amazing family. I just don't want to worry them more than I already have.

I'm currently taking Lexapro which is a great pill for depression and anxiety.

Bpd is something that develops and not hereditary.
But my mom's side of the family has s history of alcoholism and drug abuse.

I'm a little shy but incredibly friendly, when I was working customer service was my best aspect, I don't do well in small crowded environments like classes, but I'm fine at events or concerts as long as I have a little booze.

 

I have a question, can you describe it and how it affects your life?

 

I would never let a medical "professional" diagnose me with any psychological disorder. The truth of it is too thin, as the psych tests they run to determine your condition are only based on the answers you give and the attitude you display while being tested.

Would you really trust anyone to judge WHO you are for you? I'm not hating on you here, I'm just curious as to why you would put so much faith in the system. I guess that's my question to you, what made you so willing to get a diagnosis and do you earnestly believe that the diagnosis was accurate?

 

Do you have any idea how BPD is obtained. Is it a genetically passed down disorder, or is it obtained in another way?
