He wasn't referring to getting someone's IP, but this specific method.

I'm getting sick of people posting nonsense here.

What's your signature, that shows my ip adress?
If so, that's not what I mean, that doesn't give you my ip, it just reflects my own ip.

I am not going to click it and I have IMG tags 100% disabled atm.

Nope, that's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about people renting a domain to host a picture on, they PM it to you and can see in their logs which IP adress viewed the image.

That's why I suggested a white list of domains. I'll even make it myself if needed lol.

Just curious, but what do you achieve by having someones ip? You can't hack them unless they download the keylogger right?..or use phished email. So is this because you're annoyed with those pics or is there a way they can hack you?

At least you'll see the url in instant messaging and you can choose to avoid it if it looks shady.

I understand what you're saying. If it happened to me I would post the image somewhere public as soon as possible. AND request my ISP change my IP.

ISP does not change your ip on request, unless you have a really good reason.

Also when they do this, they assume you didn't notice that they have your IP.

But yeah, I know other ways to change my ip but that's not the problem :p

We just need a whitelist imo.

Contact an admin about it. Filtering out certain domains (words/phrases) is easy. The only problem is that it is very easy to switch to using a new domain. (Pardon me, I admit I haven't looked through the whole thread to see if a staff member has already commented about this)

Yes, the domain has already been blocked.

In order to prevent them moving to a new domain we need a whitelist, that way new domains will be blocked aswell.

Ohhhh my bad.. Fail on my part.. You want a whitelist... not a blacklist. Interesting idea but it would have to be massive.. Plus everyone with a custom domain would run into trouble.. It would be a huge effort to make and maintain such a list.

There is a little trick how to bypass this.

Just by reading the PMs first from the e-mail that you receive with every single PM directly from the mail inbox (Outlook, Thunderbird, directly on the mail site, which is a stupid idea, but whatever). And if it's good, secure and fine, then replying to the sender.

Everyone can know anyone's ip it's not hard it just takes a little bit of time an effort most people don't want to do. Every website you go to knows your ip and like u said every one you associate with on those sites canfind it fairly easily.

I'd rather just have a whitelist for everyone's safety.

Also I have disabled receiving e-mails whenever I get a PM due to spam.

Like I said before, if it was that easy they wouldn't be resorting to this method.
