Is everybody capable of murder?

Given the circumstances, could everyone be capable of murder? State why or why not.

 

I personally believe so.

It is an underlying instict that I believe is connected to the 'Fight or Flight' mode of physiology. It is probably really only in extreme conditions, such as when threatened or when a loved one is threatened. Though there are some people who just snap and go on a killing spree - which I don't believe killing sprees are physiology linked. I believe they are usually a mix of stress and mental illness.

 

Of course man, i always believed in my life i would murder somebody...

 

Quite honestly, no. I know it would take A LOT to get me to murder someone, even in self-defense.

 

If it's life or death, I think our natural instincts would be to survive. I would kill if I couldn't get caught or in trouble.

I believe everyone is capable of murder. It would take a saint to not defend themselves or defend loved ones. When I see people saying they wouldn't, I find that hard to believe because everyone has their breaking point. We are all human after all

 

If you mentally and/or physically abuse them enough... Why not?
I think that anybody would do so if it gets to the point where they have to either shoot somebody or suffer further torture.

 

It's been already proven that over 50% of people will give other people lethal shocks when a higher authority tells them to.

Self defense, protecting loved ones, yea.

 

Yes, every one has their limits and for instance if they just watched some one kill their loved ones most people would murder if given the chance.

 

Anyone can be capable of murder it just depends on your tolerance level.. like everyone has their certain point of anger where if pushed to the edge its possible

 

Natural instinct of fight or flight would occur in the situation of life or death situations.
You either run, if you believe you can outrun the other or choose fight and defend yourself.
I think everyone possesses the will to do it, having the ability to, may be a different issue.

but yeah, I'd do it. If my life or others I cared for lives were in danger and i would try to do anything possible to save myself/others in those situations.

I think just about anybody could commit murder if they absolutely had to. The fight or flight response in humans that some people have mentioned up above is a perfect example. Survival is a natural instinct and I think most people would do whatever it takes to survive and/or remove themselves from a life-threatening situation, including taking somebody else's life.

I also believe that being the emotional creatures that humans are, it is possible to have those emotions blind us sometimes into doing things that we did not know we were capable of before, and would not have done if we had just taken a moment to think things through. In summary, a sudden provoked response, where an immediate emotional reaction comes into play.

The only examples I can think of at the moment are fairly morbid, but lets just say that a kid is abused heavily by his father everyday for years. He is physically beaten, and emotionally demeaned and belittled until one day he just snaps and while his father is thrashing him around, he grabs a knife off the kitchen counter and stabs his father to death. It is not a pretty picture to imagine, but I think alot of times the murders that people commit are just sudden impulsive reactions like this, while in the throes of great rage or passion, and are not carefully calculated and thought through beforehand.

 

I'm pretty that there wouldn't be a situation that would make me literally want to 'kill' someone. Oh trust me, if they were to try to do something to a friend/family member, in my mind I would want to kill them, but at best I probably would just bring them to near death...I seriously don't think I could do the 'final blow', I would rather someone else finish them off.

Exactly, I would want to bring them close to it at most, I couldn't imagine myself finishing them off.

 

I could definitely get pretty close if I was in a normal condition, but If I was high / drunk...

Yes anyone is capable of murdering. If you're in the state of berserk you could do anything and also it depends on whether you want to murder or not.
