Would you pay to get around school filters?

Would you pay $1 a month for a service that gets around every school filter and gives you unfiltered access to the web?

It will be through a VPN, not a proxy.

It is started with a non-executable file that can run with limited rights.

This service is not designed for people who know what they are doing already getting around the filter, but for the students who don't know anything, and just want something they can click on and it works every time.

I do not need to pay, I can do it on my own.

You do not need a vpn or a proxy to do such things.

Just learn how your schools network is setup, and "modify" it.

Anyone who pays for something like that is idiotic, but God forbid anybody learn anything they don't have to know to carry on a conversation with their friends.

It really depends on the type of network the school has and how it is setup what you have to do.

When I want to get unrestricted internet I just spoof a MAC address of an unfiltered device.

What I am interested in doing is designed for the student that knows basically nothing about computers and networks, and just wants something they just click and it works.

your school is silly if they allow students to access C: drive :*)

google has proved free hotspots in partnership with iinet in the parks/area that reaches our School so anybody with a laptop (every student will have a laptop next year) will get free unfiltered internet.

/add GP to disable access *evil laugh*

OT: i wouldn't have paid (private school filters were useless), i can see some kids paying for this, compared to the other crap they buy lol. it saves learning some networking skills as well if they're not interested

This will be for the people who don't care and don't know how to look by themselves.

The second "computer smartest" kid in our school next to me was trying to show me he could get around the filter using the ping method one time ....

The school internet happened to go down in the middle of his ping request, sos he thought what he did broke the internet, and he begged me to fix it before the it people traced it to him.

I just acted like i was doing something in his command prompt (ipconfig /all) and then it came back up my itsself and he still doesn't understand what happened to this day.

I have another friend who, whenever he needs to add music he downloaded in to his itunes, calls me without fail and asks me how to do it every single time. We literally spend half the time on each conversation trying to figure out where he saved the files to on his hard drive.

One time he needed to burn a CD out of itunes and that was even worse.

These are the types of people the program is for. The "I just want it to work" type of people.

    It's not idiotic.
They're choosing to pay for a service, rather than taking the time to learn a complicated step (anything can be complicated at first.)

It's something that we chose to do everyday.

No, because most students would just go on Facebook which is sad when you are supposed to be doing work rather than seeing who's liked your posts.

Takes less than five minutes. Basically people would be paying for being ignorant.

Now that money and time has been brought into this subject,
The values of paying for something that you could learn in 5 minutes is no different than paying for something that you could learn in an hour.

If you're calling people who pay a dollar a month for a VPS ignorant, then you are also calling people who pay for training on these forums ignorant, too.

Would you pay to get around school filters?

It's not. It's a matter of time saved. Time = money, so time and money saved. It would save a lot of time to pay someone to change the breaks on my car, but I would save virtually no time if I paid someone to drink a glass of water for me. In the end, I'm better off if I just drink the glass of water myself. I save money, I save time, and now I'm hydrated.

Not true. I never said people who use a VPS are ignorant. They do not have the capabilities to host their own server or to do what they need the server to do, therefore the only logical thing to do would be to rent one at a much lower expense. If you only want a VPS for 6 months, which is better, paying $500+ for the hardware or $6 to rent it?

How is that? If I pay someone to do an hours worth of training for me, that's an hour of my time I'll save. If I pay someone to complete a task that will take less time than it would take for me to contact the person, make the payment, and do whatever they need me to do, then I am losing time and money. Think of it like this, what's better? Paying someone $.50 to open a door for you, or just opening it yourself? Takes more time to get the change from your pocket than to just grab the door and take care of it.

Basically, by doing it yourself, you save money and you learn something new. By paying someone to do it, you lose money, you don't learn anything, but it takes relatively the same amount of time. I'd rather learn something and save money than spend money and not.

Why's this turning out to be a big flame war? He asked a simple question: would you pay for it? If yes, then say yes. If not, then say no.

You don't need to try to shred him for freakin' asking. Ya'll need to chill the fuck out.

Would you pay to get around school filters?

You're missing the entire point here.
You just called ignorant for paying for something when they could spend time learning how to fix the problem themselves, which is what most people do everyday.

Thus, you are calling everybody else who does that ignorant, too.
    Or idiotic, whichever you prefer.

No, you're missing my point. When it takes less or an equal amount of time to just do it yourself, it's foolish (idiotic) to pay for someone else to do it. Especially if you benefit (by learning something new) in the process.

The ignorance comes in to play when someone goes "I don't know how to do it, I don't care how to do it, I'll just pay you to do it." Which is basically what would happen in this instance.

Would you pay to have someone come over and simply tighten the lug nuts of your car? No, because it's simple and takes almost no time at all. And even if you don't know how, it would take about 10 seconds to learn.
