Asians are supposed to be smart..

I was at the local PD today requesting an affidavit (won't go into that) and I overheard a conversation in the next window.


Turns out an (obviously new to the country) Asian couple was contacted by a man in Nigeria whom had some goods to sell. From what I overheard, it seemed he requested the money be sent in advance via Western Union and then the goods would be posted, and of course the nice, stupid, Asian couple obliged.

They of course attempted to file a report. They were told that the local police here have no jurisdiction in Nigeria and advised to notify the Nigerian authority's.


My first thought: What a fucking retard. He sent money to NIGERIA.

My second thought: Why are they even here? Reporting ANY fraud incident is a complete waste of time - even if they are in this jurisdiction, the federal police don't bother with anything under $10,000 and what is a minor dishonesty charge IF they catch the dude? Waste of time, and you never get your money back either way. Hence the statistic that 84% of fraud crimes are NOT reported.

My third thought: Why were they turned away as fast as they were? Even if they understood the pointlessness of reporting this crime and they still wanted to file a report, why wern't they atleast forwarded in the correct direction of the Nigerian police? Yes we all know Nigerian authoritys ignore this type of crime since it helps their economy but this should NOT reflect on our stance of it.

Asian people usually have a hard time enduring the first years in the United States and are usually desperate for money. I would know.

They got scammed money they don't have and you're sitting there talking about how they're fucking retarded, not how these Nigerians should be prosecuted for their wrong doings.

I feel sorry for the couple. I wonder how they will go through this shit and will pray for them.

Actually, if you read the post properly you would probably see that I was making a point of the lack of help you get from police whence reporting such incidents.
I would apologize for the misunderstanding but it's not my fault you need every single point emphasized. The title was a headline - it does not reflect my whole opinion on the subject.

Ok, when you get scammed I'll be sure to make a thread about you whilst laughing about it. People get scammed everyday, it's a common thing, life goes on.

 

Unless... They were actually super smart and pulled a scam claiming they were scammed so they could scam the Nigerian government.

 

I've never been scammed online, I follow a simple law whence dealing with parties that do not have reputable backgrounds such as Amazon.com etc, the law exists in real life, too! It goes like this: You get your goods and then you pay. I can't see future events though, but if somebody was to scam me I would not bother wasting my time getting them banned on an online forum so jokes on you.

The police officer was the one laughing, I was merely a bystander pondering different opinions of this lack of justice. Not that I don't find it humorous, I find it very fucking humorous. None the less, stay on topic bro!

 

It was your fault for writing a misleading headline. The topic of a subject is supposed to be the main idea of what is being discussed or argued. You failed to do that correctly.
You also failed to emphasize your main points effectively my elaborating more on your minor points more than them.

You should learn to write a proper thread if you don't want people to lash at you for something that was not your intention.

Regardless I'm sure people of all races have fallen for scams like this. If the scam only worked on one unsuspecting couple, con artists wouldn't waste their time continuing this scam and would figure out another way to steal money. Quit being so ignorant.

I would like to think that if we took a more aggressive stance to the issue then not only would it perhaps be published in the media more often (thus more public awareness about these scams) but it may also spark an interest to actually do something about our lack of ability to intervene/prosecute repeat fraud offenders in Nigeria. I can see a million problems with the sheer idea of it but nothing is easy.

 

the headline should be relevant to the main idea to your main idea. It has a closer connection to your discrimination against the Asians a lot more than law-enforcement lacking in support.
And there you are again, enforcing your opinion that the couple were stupid for falling for the scam. I think that it's obvious now that your post claiming that that's not your main point is just a coverup to try and mask your ignorance.
Furthermore, not everybody knows that Western Union does not allow charge backs. This further proves your ignorance.

Doesn't need to but it should. Do you ever see a newspaper headline read 'Man raped chicken then ate cat' but the article was actually about the GFC? I mean hey you don't need to get laid right? I don't see how the fact that the couple happens to be Asian makes any difference at all in this scenario. This scam happens ALL the time, to MANY different people, whether they are individuals or couples, and regardless of their gender, race, or age.

The couple sitting in the window next to you could have easily been a white couple, or a black couple. In fact, I have heard of this scam before and there have been many people who have fallen victim for similar scams originating from third world countries, regardless of their ethnicity. I find your correlation between race, intelligence, and being unfortunate enough to fall for this scam highly ignorant and racist. Why even bother posting this here?
