Google is your friend, it'd be hard for anyone to sum up the storyline of WoW in a forum post. You HAVE to buy Vanilla ( The WoW without an extra name, Just World of Warcraft ) in order to play. And there are no "Campaigns" just quests you do to level up and such

Honestly don't worry about the storyline, best to learn it as you level up your characters through questing/dungeons etc. Plenty of lore to read up around the web though.

They aren't called campaigns, they're called expansion packs, and there are three of them on top of the original (vanilla) wow. You need to buy at least the base WoW (vanilla/just World Of Warcraft) and have a subscription to play, but you'll want to eventually buy all the expansions (you need ALL of them to access current content, can't skip them).

If you buy the original WoW, they now give you the first expansion, The Burning Crusades, for free. That will take you to level 70. Wrath of the Lich King, will take you to 80, and Cataclysm with take you to 85.

It will cost you $15 a month to play the game. If you are looking to get into it to make money, don't.

If you want to play for Free, before you pay, consider looking into playing on a private server - http://wowstatus.net/serverlist.php

Just start off with the free trial [Starter Edition] that is a great way to get introduced into the storyline. Then if you want to go past level 20 you can just upgrade one expansion at a time. Try out different classes/races and both sides, google is great and many forums, if you have specific questions you can PM me. But for sure try it out free at least.

If you want to understand the lore of many of the main characters in WoW, I highly suggest you buy Warcraft 3 + The Frozen Throne expansion to it. It will introduce the lore quite nicely and many of the main heroes from it are within WoW (WoW continues the story).

However, WoW itself doesn't have quests. You'll simply learn the story of WoW through questing in each zone. However, I really do recommend playing W3 and TFT.

and id suggest looking for someone to do recruit a friend with that way they can help you along and you get way more xp to get to 85 in a week or so, plus when you buy battle chest it comes with a months membership.
